I was invited to a property for some hunting last week and had breakfast with the land owner the morning after filling my tag. He mentioned a large number of deer in a certain area of his land and that his property manager was worried they may have poachers coming in there. His concern was caused by spotting two deer floating in the river by a low water crossing. I asked if he looked at the deer to see if they may have been bucks that got locked up and fell in the water, he said they had not even thought of that possibility. So, off we went to investigate....

It looks like the eight point was on his way down hill and the ten was fighting to be the new dominant buck of the area. Both were trophy quality. I wish I could have seen them before they fell in the water... The ten was touching 170 and the eight was a solid 150 class. The land owner and his business partner are having euro mounts done with them locked up. It will be a great addition to their new office!

Good call on that one . Imagine comming up on them hooked together that way "before" you filled your tags ? Would have been a great score for a hunter and a more humane way to go for the deer .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

I received an email that told of three bucks that had interlocked horns that had drowned in Meigs County Ohio. They had over 400" of horn between the three. I had forgotten about it until I ran across this posting. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Holiday.

Wow - that is really something!

It must have been quite a battle!

Thanks for sharing the pictures and story!

best

My father-in-law has pictures of 2 elk that got locked up like that. Pretty odd that they can get tangled up but not HULK apart.

Man that's crazy. I can not imagine the force that they must have hit with to lock the antlers that tight. Sucks that they went out like that but it should make for a pretty cool mount.

Thanks for posting. That's wild (no pun intended) and sad that they were not found/harvested before dying.

It's crazy to see that stuff. I found a little 6 and a decent 8 locked up like that in the woods dead. the rut is no joke :)

You do know that a set of true naturally locked and not taxidermist faked antlers can sell for big bucks. No pun intended.
And it's a huge plus that you actually have photo documentation.

How much are we talking here? Big bucks like $500, or like $5000? I doubt we would sell either way, but if it financed a trophy mule deer trip for us next year...

nature can be cruel sometimes, a shame the meat went to waste...I found a doe carcass tangled in a fence once.

Ha! I would totally buy a pair of mounted skulls locked in combat... You could fake it of course, but with proof like this?!
