Crazy Guy roaming Utah Wilderness -- Scary Stuff

It is one thing to live in the wilderness and not cause harm but the whole steeling and deficating in a pan thing I hope they catch the guy. It is reasons like this I never go into the woods without a sidearm
 
He sounds like he's spiralling out of control...he's no survivalist in my opinion...he's a crazy with a gun. Hope they catch him soon.
 
Reminds me of Wildman Bill Moreland, a guy that I read about in a Survival book, same kind of situation only this guy in Utah is doing this stuff now!
 
Scary part is there are thousands of people just like him roaming around every city in America.
 
Just read it and, WTF. I hope he breaks into the wrong cabin and gets put down. I wouldn't be so erked by him if he was breaking into here and there w/o doing any real damage and just taking a bit of food to get by on(if he's indeed homeless or something), or some warm clothes, but booze,coffee and guns? And doing tons of damage to the cabins. He's no survivalist and he damn sure ain't no mountain man or he's be out there trapping his food not looting it. Though them mountain men do love a good drink;) This guy is just a petty crook who is VERY likely mentally ill in some way shape or form. I bet he's not even from that mountain area, he's just some schizo doomsdayer who lost his nut and took off to the hills. Maybe they'll get lucky and he'll try to burglarize a bear's den:D
 
I think if I had a cabin in this area, I would make some exlax filled Brownies and leave for this guy to munch on!!!

Wow...I just read this:eek: That guy is a few fries short of a Happy Meal :stupid: He will slip up at some point & they will catch him....just hope they catch him before he hurts someone !

Not just in the city but the wilderness as well. Recluses with mental instability, pot growers, human traffickers, poachers, felons in hiding, illegal woodcutters, dumpers of toxic chemicals, moonshiners, and violent criminal actors who illegally harvest mammals and natural forest products. My favorite spot is now polluted with the carcasses of the remains from cattle rustlers. No the wilderness today is not a picture perfect scene out of Disney movie. Hikers, backpackers, and campers are robbed, beaten, raped, kidnapped, and murdered each year. Often under reported by the media with a few exceptions such as in this case.

There are three questions no one can ever answer for us: 1. Who a threat might be? 2. When & where an attack might happen? 3. What is it going to take to stop an attack?

Crazy stuff like this probably happens all the time. Knives and axes are dandy, but take a gun when you go out into the woods. I do, every time. This guy is a good reminder to take precautions and stay safe.
 
Not saying that i dig this guy or anything but they dont have prints and very few pictures, how can they say that its the same guy perpetrating all of the crimes? Seasonal cabins get broken into all the time and in many cases its kids that are partying and stealing things. Ithink that maybe this guy is breaking in but with such differing M.O.'s maybe its not all him. Like, maybe some doper kid shit in the pan and was stealing guns and such. This guy in the pic was traveling fairly light, may not have even been his camp they found.... just sayin.
 
This is why I usually carry a .45 ACP or .357 in the wilderness (or a long gun). - too many weirdos out there.

The sense of entitlement this guy must have to break into folks' cabins and steal, destroy & loot their property galls me. I know a colleague with a cabin in this area ... I'm sure he'll take precautions though.

Sounds as if law enforcement are a bunch of Barney Fife's if they haven't caught him in 5 years...doesn't sound like he is keeping too low a profile trashing cabins and leaving trashed out camp-sites every where - what a pig. The man is probably very mentally unstable. What makes me wonder is that this area (Zion NP) is highly trafficked with unprepared tourist types...almost begging for some sort of confrontation with this guy.
 
Does that rifle look a little odd to anyone else?

The barrel appears to have a small diameter tube on top of a large diameter tube, like an air rifle. The stock, bolt and scope look suited to a centerfire rifle, but that barrel just doesn't look right to me.

Not that it matters, but I also think it's very strange that he's outside in the snow and sunshine and not wearing sunglasses.
