Crazy to actually use an $800 knife?

That is up to you. I have used much more expensive knives than that, but that is just me. YOU have to make that decision for yourself. I LOVE using my knives, as they ARE useable art to me, that IS half the fun!!

Gotta use 'em!

Looking at things is fun, but using them is way more fun. The reason it's expensive is because of the expert craftsmanship and materials used. That's also what makes it a really good tool. :) I'm pretty sure Chris wants them to to be used, and he gets the most pleasure from hearing stories of them doing "sebenza"... Work. :)

I can't carry them all. :o

You just need more pockets. :)

I would probably put it on a light duty type of carry and usage. Those Demascus Mammoth inlayed ones are beautiful and don't need to really be "worker" the way sebenzas are intended to be. Lots of other great CRK's can fill that role but hey... might as well carry and use what makes you happy. I know I smile everytime mine comes out of pocket to a cutting chore. :D

It sure is satisfying to use a knife.
If you are in the market for a user Sebenza, a plain jane will do.
If you got that special, it is my understanding, that special needs are fulfilled.
Therefore it is OK "not to use it" or use it in the sense of "Think Twice, Cut Once".
As for using that leather pouch, be aware of the fact, that the leather can change the color of the inlay.
hope this helps

Well, my new baby showed up today. I might need to slow down. I didn't own a single one of these a month ago.

It would have been so much cheaper if I didn't lose my 20 year old Buck Knife. I'd have never discovered CRK.

Ok I understand if you don't want to carry a $800 knife but also at the same time why is it sharp? It wouldn't be sharp if it was meant to sit in a display case right? Or have a pocket clip, there's no pocket in a case...

Since you said you wanted to carry it, do it. Think of it this way, when you're about to die and that knife is sitting there brand new you'll kick yourself for not carrying and using it.

I use mine regularly. Large 21 plain jane with Spirograph Damascus. Not quite $800.00, but it also has a $100.00 Titanium/Tritium lanyard bead on it.

For that price, I'm using it for sure.:)

I use my CRKs everyday, as well as other high end production/mid tech knives. I think of it like this, a lot of people have a $600+ phone in their pockets that they use everyday and they drop it, scratch it, wet it, etc.

Same with knives, you might as well use what you bought, and with CRK it's a long term investment. People upgrade their expensive phones every year or two, whilst we have our CRKs for what could be a lifetime :)

If you were ever to need a new home for that bottom knife (which I believe is a large mammoth sebenza) I would be glad to offer a home for it. 😬 It is bee-yoo-tee-full!

That reminds me of the quote someone had posted on here before- "do you want your wife's next husband to get a box of pristine, expensive knives; or do you want him to get box of patina'd, greasy blades covered in fish guts and deer blood?" Paraphrasing of course, prolly extensively because that's the way it reads in my head;)

I'm not a rich guy but I do on occasion splurge on a treasure. I've been hit with the Chris Reeve bug lately.

I EDC an Inkosi. I currently also own a Mnandi / Damascus in Box Elder. It mostly sits in a display case.

Well, I just picked up a Sebenza 21 / Raindrop Damascus with Mammoth Ivory. Its being shipped as we speak.

Would I be crazy to actually EDC it intermittently or is it just too expensive a knife to get scratched up in my pocket?

Knives are built to be used.It is a cutting tool so use it.Think twice, cut once ;)

Just try to imagine having had a sebenza 21 that got lost and you bought a replacement... same cost.

Or maybe picture 2 or three knives that the sum total would equal the cost of the Chris Reeve. Would you/do you carry 2-3 folders in your rotation? Why not the sebbie?

Just a thought.
