I have one credit card that I use to buy only knives on line. Last month I bought a knife from a dealer in Oregon and another from a dealer in Michigan. If any of you bought any knives from a dealer in these two states and had your info used to make other buys on line PM me to compare the dealers. I don't want to list them here so I don't give any problems to the fine dealers that did nothing wrong.
Thanks,
Mike

The stealing of your credit card number may have nothing to do with the places you used it. There are lots of ways to get credit card information and many do not involve the purveyor but you, your computer, or your credit card provider.

Just be glad you were smart enough not to use a debit card :)

Understood.
I'm just looking for a pattern that may funnel down to one of the Jobbers. Then I'll warn him that he may be getting hacked as well. I've already been issued a new card and filled out the paperwork to get refunded for the crap the hacker bought. One of the bigger buys was at Lowes online sales. They would not co-operate in any way shape or form. They wouldn't even tell me what state they shipped to.

These kind of people are good at stealing. One of the sites Wazu013 visited was ours. I don't think the information theft was from our site. I am checking up the line with our security, but we have the highest level of security we can find.

There are so many places they get the information. Ticks me off.

I've been tempted to use my debit card, as I don't use a credit card, but, I would have more to worry about than just paying off debt...

I'm pretty sure it would be illegal for the business to share any information with you. You would need to get the police involved.

I had a similar situation a few years ago and I had to contact the local police department ("local" meaning local to the business that shipped the order). It was a long process but in the end they caught the guy and I was one of many that he had robbed in this way.

I hope everything works out for you, I had a friend that was robbed pretty badly back in '98 and it pretty much screwed up his entire life (mainly because the laws were different/nonexistent at the time). Now the laws are pretty good, but you need to get that started.

Imo your best bet is to contact the police and let them do the investigating. I think it's safe to say that most businesses would be happy to provide information to the police regarding theft/fraud that took place in their store (or through their website).

Mine was pretty painless. I got a text from my CC company yesterday afternoon asking me if I used my CC at a gas station that morning. I responded with No, they immediately texted back and said my card was being suspended till I called them.

I called them, they told me about $10 had been charged at a gas station in Texas that morning (I live in Northern California). I confirmed it was not me, they told me to destroy my card and they'd send me a new one. The $10 never even got on my account, they flagged it right away. Pretty great.

I just had a similar situation happen with my debit card. Fortunately my bank must have a pretty robust "that's odd" squad because they only let through two purchases before they locked the card down. The bank advised me to always use a credit card, especially on-line as your exposure is much less than with a debit card. My wife told me Thursday that there had been a canned fraud prevention call to the house. I didn't pay too much attention but when my card was declined at a local business Friday I went to the bank and saw two odd purchases as I was waiting in line. All should be ok. New card on the way.

Your bank has top-of-the-shelf fraud protection software! Nice!! [emoji2]

When my identity was being stolen one of the accounts the scum bag tried to get was Lowe's. I have NEVER had an account with Lowe's- I don't even shop there. That company (Lowe's) took charge of my case- told me not to worry about it - and handled everything with my I.D. theft. Stand up company with a great team of fraud lawyers.

Sorry for the hyjack, but I thought it my ease your pain a bit.
