Cricket for ti frame lock and G11 conversion

McMaster & Carr has it. Thats where this stuff came from. Good stuff. Wear lung protection working it though. Glass filled synthetics like G10 or G11 are bad news to cells in the lungs. Don't make a habit breathing that stuff in without protection.

I'm not doing anymore of these if you are asking that. I probably could have brought the cut out up farther though but I followed the original pattern. I'd recommend at least enought to get a good thumb purchase on with a frame lock. Especially one of mine since my locks tend to be stout since I refuse to take the lock cuts down so far.

My hands are too big to handle these tiny little knives. That knife was dropped I don't know how many times while working on it. Good thing it was always over my work table three or so inches off the surface. I had to work over a folded over towel to manipulate it. I don't know how you guys use them. Too small for me!:D

Yeah it is a neat man made material for sure. Almost looks like a jade stone after bead blasting it up on some handles I've done. It has this almost glow in the dark character at times although it doesn't glow per say. It just that tranlucent effect I guess..

I had Sal mail me a couple and that was my only source.

What are your needs specifically? I may have one still laying around here from a Manix or Mini Manix that will fit the lock bar or blade pivot. I'd have to look though.

I was hoping to do a new scale on a Cricket or two. Same problem you had with this G11 one. I just dont have any pivots that are long enough. Alas...

Thanks

Steve I've got 2 questions for you...
1. Would you do a clip-flip on a Cricket?

2. What kind of lung protection do you need for G10/G11? I asked Oupa about customizing a SAK for me and he is unable to do so until June. I think I might buy a pre-cut G10 SAK scale and sand it myself but your warnings scare me. For a few dollars more I can buy a sheet of G10 or G11 and do everything myself, but there will be even more 'stuff' flying in the air.

The glass fibers are bad news. You need a good 3M or MSA half face respirator. They are not that expensive. Its not an option working with that material. In a few minutes it will make you feel like you are coming down with a cold and sore throat.
Use protection.

I am not going to go there with a clip flip on a hardened stainless handle that thick. I don't currently have a drill that is the right size to even make the hole and I'd need a cobalt or carbide to do that probably and I'd probably just break taps to thread it even if I made the hole but it may thread I don't know. More likely I'd have to drill a #44 hole with a carbide but not take it all the way through. I'd just go half way. Then I'd use a correct size for the screws and threader in a #48 but I've not found those in cobalts and you'd need that to drill that metal. I'm sure it would ruin two HSS #48 drills to make two holes in that knife and they may not even drill it depending on how hard Spyderco made the stainless.

I'm sure it can be done but I don't have a tap matic to make that easier like some guys do and also, I've had so many bad experiences trying to thread Spydercos thicker stainless that I just don't want to go there on someone elses property.
