crimsonfalcon07's 2K necker contest: **winners chosen**

Nah, I prefer natural, personally. As Robin Williams says, they're like Nazi's. Too much silicone, and they don't laugh, they don't dance, they're just <insert stiff gesture here>.

Just like I prefer wood to micarta.

I'm in, and I love me a Becker Necker!

The BK-14 is the knife that single-handedly switched me from carrying a folder to carrying a fixed blade every day. It has thus far been capable of handling any cutting task I've thrown at it, and it stays sharp (sharp enough to give an OBGYN nightmares apparently). It's small enough to not be terribly intimidating to people who see it, though not too small to be unuseful. One of the places it could use improvement is the stock sheath. I have one with the dulling problem. It would be nice if the stock sheath were more compact. Less material would mean a lower cost. That being said, Azwelke fixed my problem quite handily. Another issue that I have is that there are times when I want just a little more blade (food prep mostly). Although, I imagine this is why the tweeners exist. All things considered, the BK-14 got me hooked on BK&T and I'm not going back to anything else.

Knives are coming back from heat treat by end of next week. I'll have pics up of completed prizes hopefully a week from tomorrow, maybe Monday. 10 more days to enter! Right now there's close to 50/50 odds of winning.

The BK11

This is a signature model of the Becker line...one that almost any Becker fan owns...and truly a classic. The handle with it's built-in bottleopener is highly distinctive, there is no doubt that it's a Becker necker when you see one!

Being the father of the 14...it has the classic drop point Full Flat Grind blade...and is made in the KaBar 1095CV. But unlike the 14, the 11 is offered with partial serrations, and a discontinued model in San Mai laminated steel.

It's design lends itself well to stripped neck carry, but the 11 is also well-supplied in the aftermarket realm of Scales...the 11 is a workhorse, ready for EDC pocket carry or a day in the field.

I will admit, unlike the 14, the 11 isn't a perfect fit in my hands bare or 550 wrapped..but with the addition of quality scales, it's elevated to a whole new level of ergonomics.

Alrighty, I got 6 valid entries (2 from Thrill), 2 entries that need work (Psyop and ol_sc), and I've updated the rules so our newer folks like renegade90 can join in the fun.

I have not had time to get outside with knives or a camera but hopefully I can this weekend.

Heh, I like the restrictions. Great contest and thanks for giving back to the community.

I am extending this until next Wednesday, as my heat treat guy isn't shipping the blades til tomorrow, not last Tuesday like I thought, and I want finalized pics of the prizes to go up shortly before I draw winners. Cheers!

The bk11 was my very first becker knife gifted to me by OREGON FAL'ER. He knew I needed to be introduced to proper fixed blades, as I had none. I was dirt poor at the time too, it was so awesome of him to do that for me. The 11 is my favorite for several reasons, I mean, I love me some BK9 and 15 fo sho, but, the best knife is the knife you have with you, and this one is with me the most by far. I've used it to open cans, make feather sticks, strike fire steel, carve a fork, cut lots of meat, and recently attempt to skin a rabbit with it. (had to switch blades because I had made it so dull oops!) I love the shape of the blade and I have a small part of the spine squared for striking firesteel. I keep changing the wrappings or handles on it because I am fickle, but I like the handle, the bottle opener has proven very handy at times.

If I were to change the knife at all I'd make the handle a fraction, just a sliver longer than it is now. I didn't like the factory sheath but I fixed that with a Nix leather sheath and I love it.

I've also gifted this blade to my dear friend Gwenny, and although she isn't a crazy knife fan like some of us, she puts it to use in the woods. The BK11 was my gateway drug to beckers and the forums, and I'm grateful for it!!

Okay, here are the contest prizes. I will close this and pick winners tomorrow.

First prize, my EDC design in 3.5" drop point. Bocote handles, mosaic and steel pins, forge finish on the flats, hand rubbed to 600 grit on the bevels. 1095 steel, professionally heat treated. Handle is ergonomically designed for a saber or hammer grip, and to lock your hand onto the blade so you don't lose it. Also is comfortable in reverse grip, for you SD types.

Thanks to those who participated. I will be shipping them out Monday to Thrillbilly for kydex, and then on to their ultimate destination.

Those look nice Crimson! I like the mosaic pins you are getting better!

Thanks Psyop! Made the pins myself. It's actually easier than everyone tells you. Not super easy, but not too difficult either.
