Cringeworthy Blade Misuse

I wrist flicked a first generation police model so hard, and so much that the thing now has up and down play so bad you can use the knife as a rattle.

When I started into knives, I bought a Police for about $200 way back in 2001, it was expensive for a 20 yr old student, I thought I had the jack of all trades. I stumbled upon a loose phillips screw, took out my knife and tried to use it as a screwdriver, the tip broke off, I had no idea what happened and I even got mad it couldnt handle it, 19 years later I still have my ‘short’ Police

I stupidly used a vintage Ontario pilots knife to try and free an 7.62 round out of a board at the range, snapped 3/4 of the tip off. Ended up making it into a sheepsfoot shape like that new one that came out.

A handed one of my coworkers my opened Sebenza Insingo to cut a piece of pizza. She held it upside down and applied a lot of pressure directly to the cutting edge with her thumb. When I looked down, it was already too late. She was bleeding pretty badly but didn’t need stiches.
Note to self: Knives aren’t self explanatory to everyone, especially ones with non traditional blades.

I used my Busse Boss Jack as an ice pick to clear out a ton of ice buildup in and around the freezer compartment in my mini fridge. I don’t know if that’s technically considered misuse for a Busse, though.;)
Never loan your knife to anyone.

Speaking of cringeworthy, and seeing that chisels have already been mentioned, one of my pet peeves is seeing trim carpenters keep all their wood chisels in the tray of a tool box, with no end caps, just banging together. Mind you, most of them do not understand what a really sharp edge looks like.

I was taught, and have practiced for 40 years, that a (really) sharp edge will be instantly damaged if it touches any metal. It is no different with knife blades. I wouldn't even cut food on a porcelain or china plate with a good pocket knife.

Had a salesman show up to the shop one day hocking cut proof gloves asking people to see their pocket knife to prove it. Dad handed his old buck 110 to him. The guy opened it up pressed down on his gloved palm and started screaming. Took 20 something stitches to sew his left hand back up.
