I love this blade shape but something about the handle I don't like.
made from 1095 from jantz. hand sanded to 400. dymondwood handle. 9 in oal.

For me, it is the front edge of the scales. And their thickness... The front looks like its leaned back without a purpose.

Otherwise it looks good... Good overall shape.

Its a great looking knife by the way. That line was honestly the only thing I saw on the whole knife I'd change. Not that my opinion is the end-all-be-all or anything...

I have had a slab of the same diamondwood from jantz for a while (they had a sale...) and have been hesitant to use it. Flashbacks of the old Frost Cutlery stuff circa 1989... That looks outstanding though. I see a project in my future... :)

Lol the reason i used it was because i have a diamond pool table the same color. I remember those knives lol

ty for the compliments on the knife as well. if not for you and several others on here helping newbies like me. I would have never made a knife at all. now I have a hobby that I love and hopefully someday i may be able to at least pay for some of my equipment with it lol.

Yup, that curve was the first thing I noticed when I saw the pics.

I'm sure it's my phone, but some pics look fantastic, some are really hard to see. I'm having trouble seeing yours with clear definition, but from what I can see I like it.

Happy to see you moving right along. :)

thanks guys. I actually got accused of making this one from a kit this morning. I took it to show a buddy. another friend of mine didn't believe I made it. I had to bring him to the house and show him how I done it lol. it does look decent but not as perfect as a kit would be I don't think.

The only thing I would add and this is super minor because overall it's a great looking knife.... The jimping seems like a bit of a waste to me, it looks like it's too far forward to really serve a purpose imo. And esthetically I'm just not a fan of a flat back knife, I like the spine to have a bit of a curve to it from butt to tip.

Looks nice. Two things pop out.

The edge side of the handle shaping needs another pass with the files IMO. Its too square and would look better and be more comfortable to use if you rounded it a bit more.

The second is purely opinion. The spine side of your handle begins farther back than the edge side. This means on hard cuts in the fist grip the web of your hand is farther from the edge. Do this experiment. Hold the knife in the fist grip. Then pinch the spine of the knife close to your hand and pull against your grip a bit with the edge away from you. Then move your pinch away from your hand and repeat. An inch makes a big difference in the power you can use on tough cuts. The web of your hand needs to be able to work comfortably very close to the edge. This is why I avoid choils and ricassos, and this style handle, and anything else that moves the fist away from the cutting edge.

And again, its all just my opinion. That knife looks very nice to me.

ty fiddleback ill try that out later on it does make sense tho. will take the handle on down some as well.
yea im not sure why I added the jimping. I guees I just wanted to see what it would look like.

I would bring Eric's red line back a little further at the bottom. Any little finger left like that with wood or Dymondwood seems to chip off. Years back I did several that way and wished I hadn't. Nice knife. Kinda cool to be able to show your friends ya built it all.

Yeah, I drew that with paint... suckage... Relatively perpendicular was what I was going for. But totally agree. Little corners of wood or almost any material hanging down on the finger like that seem like they either chip, feel funny, wear funny, etc...

And isn't it great that someone thought it was from a kit? That is one of my favorite compliments/comments...

yea I thought it was pretty cool. they guy had seen a couple I made from files just to practice on more or less. they was left unfinished and in rough shape. then he seen that one and thought it was to much improvement I guess lol. I did get the pattern off the net then changed it a bit. as it turns out the original probably didn't need changed lol.
