The top clip will be razor sharp.
I will keep it as forge finish.

EDIT: Measurements are rough....
~12 1/2 OAL
~7 1/4 from plunge to tip
~4 3/4 from butt to tip of scale
~5 1/4 from plunge to butt.
~1 5/8 tall blade

Would this hold up to extreme chopping?
Would this be allowed in a chopping competition?

Just a few questions:
I assume this is for a cutting competition.
Why would you want a sharp clip for a competition cutter?
Why are you forging CPM steel?
Why do you want a rough finish?

looks good, but I would make it out of steel, cardboard wont hold up to chopping very well. :)

Leaving a forged finish on a cutting comp knife will increase resistance due to the surface texture. It will be harder to cut things quickly- it will take more swings or will require a harder blow.

And yes, cardboard won't hold up- if you can get it to cut a 2"x 4", then take out a patent:thumbup:

I think a 7" blade will be a little short for "extreme chopping".
It could use a little drop to the handle. That will add more power to the chop.

yeah what you are designing is more of a combat knife than a designated chopper. It will certainly chop, and probably look very nice, but it won't be able to meaningfully compete against true competition chopping knives.
