Here you can see one of the tracking devices tethered to one of their tails. It looks like a ball floating behind him.

Wow! Fishshooter, no need to apologize for the iPhone! These are stunning pictures, to say the least. What a tremendous capture. Thanks for sharing these--you really feel there, in the boat, watching all this. I've never seen manatees in the wild, and can only imagine how speechless I'd be.

I, uh, however have seen gators MUCH closer than this in the field. I practically stepped on one on Captiva Island once. He and I were quite respectful of each other. Even still, your photos are superb. (Love the manatees!)
 
Manatees are great. So calm. But still they're HUGE... how come nobody made any mutant manatee movies back in the seventies? CURSE OF THE SEA COW or something.
 
hahaha. I once saw an American croc cruise right past a manatee. He didn't even flinch. They must have been buds or something because he was like "I ain't messing wit dat"
 
Awesome pics, I havent seen a manatee in person but I certainly appreciate the cool pictures.
 
manatees are actually not bad on the table either. Back in the day, and I mean some 50 years ago, we would take one every so often.

I saw a manatee last week on an intercostal waterway while on vacation inland from Port St Joe.

Where did you take those pics fishshooter?
 
I was over in Wakulla. I live about 20 minutes from St. Joe. Where were paddling at? You coming back to do any scalloping?
