Critter pics: some gators and manatees

Wow, we stopped at Wakulla Springs as our last stop on our vacation last Friday. We got in a swim, lunch and a partial trail hike before those thunderstorms moved in.

We were in the river that leads to Lake Wimico. My wife, daughter and I in a canoe and two sons in kayaks. Paddling against the current we went several hundred yards past where the powerline crosses the river but did not make it to the lake. Unfortunately we will not be coming back this summer. I'll look you up next time I'm in the area.

Right on. Up stream from White City. Yeah, hit me up. I've got a camp on Dead Lakes. I'd be more than happy to take you and the family out on the pontoon boat, or paddle down from Hwy 71 to my camp.

That is beautiful country gentlemen, thanks for the pics. That water is so clear!

Great thread! The last time I swam with the manatees was nearly 10 years ago in Crystal River. Gators photos from years past.

Great pics WW!! I've got a couple gator tags for the third week in August. My SIL, a Captain in the Air Force, will be home on leave and this will be her first gator hunting trip. She is crazy excited.

great looking pictures saw some manatee this past winter they make there way down to the keys in search of warm warer and a head of lettice

You watching Willie on "Swamp People" for for pre-hunt training?

Lol. She called me the other day and said she had been watching it. I tried to explain to her it wasn't going to be like that. No guns, out at night, harpoon and a bang stick. She liked that even more. For someone that wasn't raised around outdoor activities, she has really taken to it. Loves to fish, camp, crab. She can shoot, but we haven't taken her hunting yet, although she did help me skin and quarter a deer.

fishshooter, your asking about scalloping reminds me of doing just that in the bay there at Port St. Joe about 36-38 years ago, when I was stationed at Tyndall. Spent a lot of time around there and up the rivers and creeks.

Man, those pics are great. I used to hang out near Wakulla. And did some snorkling for scallops there with a girlfriends family once. Neat experience. For a Cajun, a totaly new way of harvesting seafood. Great day.

I worked on a sailboat in the Titusville marina once. Sanding Teak all day. The manatees would come up to the doc, just a few feet from you to drink from the hose. They'd take turns sticking their head up and just sucking fresh water from that hose like it was a straw. With my feet hanging over the doc, the first time they surfaced, it scared the living crap out of me. My boss got a kick out of that. Anytime you turned that hose on and put it over the edge of the doc they'd show up. They drink fresh water only I think.

That is an majestic school of Manatees, never saw so many at once,
