I was thinking of buying a hallow handle knife, and the only two that I know that are well made are the CRK 1-piece and the Randall #18. Since I've never actaully seen/handled these knives, I was curious if anyone had an opinion on them. Price aside, which ones are better knives? For the CRK I was thinking of the Mountaineer II. Thanks.

The CRK one piece knives are one solid piece of steel all the way to the screw off butt to the hollow handle so there is really no place that could be called a "weak spot" on the CRK.
I am not so sure that the Randall Mod. 18 is all made from one piece of steel. I think there is a joint on it someplace around the guards to tang.
I think that you would be better off with a Chris Reeve one piece and you would not have to wait over 5yrs. to get it as with RMK's.

I have both Randalls and Chris Reeve knives and I think the CRKs are a better buy for what you want.

The Mountineer is also a good choice too!

Its like compairing apples to oranges, but id go with a CRK one piece as I am pretty sure Randall's are no longer made and are collectors items of a sort.

What Ron said!

Excellent points, and you can't go wrong with a CRK hollow-handle.

Thanks for the inputs. :) I was pretty much thinking the same thing, but just curious if anyone had a Randall and liked it. They are still made, but its a 5 year waiting period if you want to order one, or pay out the rear for one that's already made. Was debating if it was worth it or not, but I'll probably just go with the CRK. Thanks much.

Corwise, I have both and you will not go wrong with the CRK, if thats your budget.

Although, I must say that when I handle my 5.5" #18, it feels old school and is a solid knife with a proven track record, however you will pay for it, most on eBay or through dealers running around $550-$600. Take into account you will NOT lose your money on a Randall, but will more than likely lose about $30-$60 or slightly more with the CRK, more if used.

Still, keep it and abuse the crap out of it! Thats what its all about...
