Crk and locktite?

Now that's more like it !!!!!!
Gotta love the micarta inlays.
All is forgiven and the heavens are at peace now. ;)

Got a question to inkosi owners. I have several 21's and an Umnum. The 21's i could play with all night without a sore thumb but Umnum after about 10 it drives me crazy i feel like after each opening from 10+ the detend gets stronger and harder. Do i need to get me some ceramic lock/detend thumbs?

Unlocking the Umnum is a painfull process soo little wiggle room in there

I'm the opposite. I like a strong detent.

Are you opening it the same way you may use on a 21? The Umnumzaan opens differently. The thumb rides along the scale pushing up on the thumbstud.

Its not the detend but rather access to be able to depress the lock. I have had 21's with very strong detend but prob because of thicker than normal washers which is sorta same since its difficult to open but to close u have a large cutout which im in love with but the Umnum does not and even if weak detend it adds difficulty purely based on access to lockbar

I have had Umnums before and opening is not really an issue for me but rather closing. I feel like im placing my thumb btw the prongs of a tweezer (lol) but with lots of force pressing on them. As mentioned above after about 10 tries or so my thumb is useless for Umnum use for several days but no issue with a 21.

Its just too little room to press the lockbar. Wish they made a CQI like Spyderco on the Umnum.

Imo a perfect Umnumwould be with a thicker lockbar width same as a 21. Therefore, push the pocket clip a bit further in like the 21. Additionally, make the but of the handle wider. Finally, give a slightly larger cutout for access to lockbar. That would make the Umnum perfect in my eyes that is.

Or for the lockbar access grind on inside of lockbar and same side of opposite handle slab sorta like Shiro does to increase the area where ur thumb can fit to unlock

I think CRK made slight improvements on the lockbar but not significant enough to make it worthwhile. I have the old pivot pre-idaho stamp version. But have hadled a newest version as well same issue for me.

The Small Classic I have sitting next to me takes 1.1lbs of force to open, My small Inkosi takes .81

Have a small digital electronic weight scale that sits in my gun cabinet.

Here is the thing for me. On a classic/21 u can polish the washers and it will sorta decrease the force required to open/unlock and same goes for thr inkosi (pivot tightness). However, even if the force to open/close is the same the sheer fact of large thumb access to lockbar on classic/21 is the winner for me.

I think subconciously im a 21 fanatic. Love it i have 4.

"4 u say mehhh thats not enough!" And i say lol i agree, i have the basic areas that i desire: all large, plain jane insingo, starbenza, micarta, CF insingo. Not a fan of tantos in general and wood/bone inlay while defenitelly stunning i would be more afraid of damaging the inlays and consequently not use them.

So you're asking us about the thumb access on the Inkosi? If that's the question, then I have no issue getting to mine on my 21, classic or Inkosi.

Sweet collection thin-slice [emoji106]

On the topic of polishing washers, mine is plenty smooth from the factory but i am interested...

Anyone have advice on how to do this, grit progressions, techniques, or even lessons learned (what not to do)? How about end results, even smoother than factory?

My advice is to not do it. This is CRK's advice also. They will polish up fine with use.
Letting a knife break in naturally is almost always(if not always) the best way to do it.

Sounds like good advice to be there is no real reason for me to do anything different than letting the knife break in naturally

My starbenza came with thick washers. Thicker than even they would like i think. It was veryndifficult to open and to unlock required 2 hands go figure. Lock was super sticky. Used the 1.4 micron ceramic WE then the strop to polish them. Did it very lightly and had to do it over 3 times. Even now the blade does not free fall. Still stiffer than my other sebenzas that i did not touch the washers and were smoother. Surprisngly, had major lock stick originally then once i polished the washers the lock stick disappeared? Maybe it was the angle at which the lockbar touched the blade tang. I honestly dont know but the lockstick disappeared after the polish.
