CRK Cheat Day

My GB1 keeps me from needing a large inkosi. I carry a small 21 drop point rhino as off work edc. Any heavy cutting goes to the GB1. They made it right the first pass.
They truly did get it right. It’s a beast of a cutter. The downward drooping blade is a great feature for heavy use, which they eliminated on the GB2. Like a milder khukuri. It’s a real performer. Handle has the profile of a turd, but it’s not about the looks with the GB1.

Everything Gayle says in this video, I’ve found to be true. A CRK Bradley/Reeve collab in M4 would be a dream knife.

Boker Cattle Knife, Solingen Germany. I am in love with this thing. Beast mode slip joint! F&F is awesome. Finally found a slip joint I can vibe with.

I know, everyone is jealous of my Uline Seboxcutter. If I’ve got a bunch of crap work i grab one of these and keep my Sebenza clipped in, Not at all fancy, and when I hit a staple at speed I feel no pain lol This one is pretty new, my last one I used for about 6 years before it wore out.

Just some detail pics and thoughts on my Boker Cattle Knife. A somewhat controversial brand, that makes a wide range of quality, for a wide range of prices, but these Solingen-Germany-Made Boker knives are really beautiful and solid blades.

The good: The fit and finish are really nice, with some imperfections / idiosyncrasies that show where the knife was hand finished (I like a little evidence that the whole knife isn’t just the product of a CNC machine). The bone scales are drop dead gorgeous. Truly beautiful pieces of bone. A really cool combination of translucent regions, brown dye, and white and black flecks, with a nifty Tree Brand shield. The knife has great walk-and-talk with a nice half stop, and the back spring is perfectly flush in all positions. The knife is perfectly tight, with great spring tension, and no side-to-side play, at all, which any CRK fan will appreciate. I also like the long narrow blade. After years using rather tall L21-style blades, being able to “carve” through an orange or avocado etc is a new feeling for me, as taller blades tend to resist changing directing while cutting. It is also a slim knife in pocket, but has a nice weight, which is a satisfying combo.

The acceptable: Boker’s N690 steel has marginal edge holding. The blade is nicely finished, but in truth the softer, older 58 HRC CRK S35VN steel holds an edge better than this knife does. The blade centering is not perfect, but doesn’t rub the scale and is only a factor for one’s OCD. Normal people would not notice. There may be perfectly-centered examples out there, but I don’t think blade centering is a goal at Boker, so don’t expect it if you pick one up.

All and all a fantastic knife for the money. Been carrying it for a month, and in my way enjoying the conscious process of two-handed opening, after years of Sebenzas and Spyderco in my pocket. Will resume CRK content shortly. Thanks for letting me share this here.
