So i was browsing the bay for a sebenza 21 large and i found a couple of clones that are copying his identical style logo and was pretty convincing. At least it stated clone. Still though. Find something better to do than steal someone elses name!

How do you guys tell fakes from the real McCoy apart from the price?

I saw an Emerson ZT on eBay recently (used) and because of all I read here I was a bit hesitant. Also, seen a lot of cold steel Spartans from China for 1/3 the mean price here.

Seems to be the only way is to buy from a reputable seller/shop.

Very, very frustrating to see them getting closer to the real item. Fakers really anger me!

Price usually, and just generally knowing what to look for. I've bought used sebenzas before but I knew what to look for, and I still payed a few hundred for them. For instance the stop pin on that knife is different than the one on the legit knife art carbon fiber Inkosi. The box is also all wrong. Other than that it's really just doing your classic checks for authenticy like image searching the pictures, checking seller reviews, etc. You can also buy knives on the sales forum on this site, I've gotten some decent deals off their and had a good experience. I don't want to give too much advise on how to buy on ebay because I'm not an expert. I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and always had a good experience, although I don't really buy knives on it. But the rule I go by is if I don't know enough about an item to tell if it's fake once I get it I don't buy it.

Absolutely.

My wife bought some shoes recently from some dealer here in Aus, according to her online they looked like the real McCoy, but when they arrived, even I knew they were fakes. And look, I know f all about shoes. Of course, she didnt pay by PayPal... we're still trying to see what the CC company can do for us.

The main theme seems to be the price.

If it looks too good to be true, that sort of thing.

Don't buy knives on eBay. At least not expensive knives that you're depending on to be the real thing. If the price looks too good to be true, it IS too good to be true. I've kicked around this rock long enough to realize that someone always pays for a free lunch.

Likewise, avoid Amazon Marketplace vendors.

The clones are so good these days and so close to the real thing, you really need to deal with a reputable knife shop that will stand behind the product they sell.

Just look at the price, if it is to good to be true it probably isn't the real deal. This applies to anything you buy. It is an established principal of all purchasing decisions for all types of products and services.

That's not a clone. That's a fake and IP theft, at least IMO. I don't have a huge problem with clones that don't copy branding/logos/etc and are clearly labeled as clones. This might be labeled as a clone, but that branding and copied packaging is unacceptable IMO.

There's another clone on eBay right now that I've already reported to eBay. The seller is asking 299 for it. It's a fairly convincing copy, and there are only a few indications that it is a fake. The only information given is "Like new, no papers or box." I also messaged the seller and he would not provide any information about who made it, where, using what materials, etc. Hopefully eBay pulls it and disciplines this seller.

To buy a knife on eBay is incredibly moronic since they are known for selling tons of clones and fakes.

People do it in order to save a few bucks then come crying to the forums :"Please help me , is my PM2 real ?". Pathetic.

Paying less but live with doubt ? No thanks.

There are plenty of reputable dealers online with great prices.

Anyway , that clone/fake in question looks scary close to the real thing. People who deal fakes and clones deserve punishment.

I have a list of knives that I'll only buy through a dealer, CRK is one of them.

The problem is there are so many fakes floating around that a seller could unknowingly be passing a fake to a buyer.

I just don't trust the secondary market anymore.

There's even been cases where a real knife was purchased from a reputable dealer, then the purchaser returned a clone for a refund and the knife dealer never noticed. That clone was then resold to the next customer. Boom.

Clones and fakes suck on so many levels.

They can also put a picture of a real one then send you the fake. Damn that clone looks close though. They even got the unevenly spaces jimping pattern correct. Something looks a little off in the double finger groove area to me though.

Scumbags. But they're out there.

I import things from China all the time for business. The hardest thing is find the best providers which means original products.
In china there are fakes for everything. It's just a matter of common sense. Chris Reeve does not make knifes in China so of course they are replicas.
Buying from legit dealers is key

Many are easy to spot- the way they phrase the sale, price, China, and blade steel. It is the outright thieves that try to pass it off as a true CRK that get trickier to spot.
Best to just buy off the exchange, from authorized dealer, or run it by the CRK forum members if you aren't sure.
