So a knife goes up for sale, price stated, a buyer gives an "I'll take it" and pays. Seller changes his mind, and refuses to complete the sale. What happens then???!!!!

Nothing generally speaking. You can't force someone to sell an item. The only thing you can do is start a thread in TGBU..Typically, when goods are not exchanged, the GBU is only to notify other potential buyers that the seller is a bit flaky.

Or buyer for that matter- Cloudfare error won't let me edit at the moment.

I believe you are referring to the large bg42 that I bought yesterday and was refunded for this morning. You can pm or text me for details. My phone number is in that thread

BF is essentially a "knife club" that works on the honour system, and reputation, nothing here is legally binding.

Suck it up and move on, this is not high school. It's a friendly forum, one has the right to change his or her mind.

as far as general etiquette- It is a bit difficult. I would go through with the sale, unless I pulled it before the I'll take it(or at least ask the buyer to let me out if It meant that much to me, which has never happened). However there are many that believe they can sell to whomever they choose, and that decision isn't until after an I'll take it. In the end all a buyer can do is grumble(start a GBU) or just let it go and move on.

Unfortunately there are many buyers and sellers that lack any honor. The only thing you can do is report them so that others will not trust their word or deal with them. I avoid anyone who doesn't have a positive feedback record. And I don't take checks.

Crap happens. I had a CRK up for trade and another member made an offer to me to trade for a knife he had. He mentioned in the thread what he had. I told him I would do the trade, but in the meantime he was contacted by a bunch of others to buy his CRK outright. He changed his mind on the trade. I have no idea what happened after that...

It is what it is.

Respectfully, I cannot subscribe to this way of thinking. other than agree that we are not in high school. We are grown ass men and women here. When a grown up (adult) commits to a deal by sending PayPal information saying that they accept, then they should honor their word! Money was sent for crying out loud! Maybe I come from a different school where a handshake meant something and a man's word is his bond. I guess being 2016 and all, that is not the way anymore. How this doesn't get under most people's nerves is beyond me!

I apologize if my tone is off, but the (sellers) lack of honor and integrity just sits very poorly with me.

This thread should be closed before it is moved to the GBU. The buyer should have the chance to start his own thread.

200% underwriting what you are saying, Cory! But you may be right. Times are changing and we are old school.

If an offer is Accepted, a contract is closed. Maybe you can view the I'll take it as a new offer, which then is received. Sending money is Part of full Filmen, not Part of the contract it'self. Yes there are some Cafés where the handling over of the money is Part of a contract. I.e. You give some money to the person on the news tand and take a newspaper - contract closed.
Here i say forget about it and be Happy to get your refund.
Sorry.

I figured there was nothing set in stone, but I'm old school too ,would have concluded the transaction as a matter of principle... Just because someone chimed in and said it was too cheap, the seller got cold feet... Yeah we're all big boys/girls....and we all have different tolerance for BS . just curious what y'all thought.

I have sold things I regretted but once the payment is made it's a done deal in my mind. I have to ship even if I have seller's remorse.

Of course, the seller can "ask" the buyer if he can back out but if the buyer still wants it then it's the seller's loss. The seller can then go buy another if he wants.

I think it sucks when a deal falls through once an agreement has been made (but not paid yet) but life sucks sometimes. In the grand scheme of things it's not the end of the world.

The seller does have the right to do business with whoever they choose, and to exclude anyone they choose. But if they accepted your offer, took your money, and then refunded it after having second thoughts, that's a bit flaky in my book.

It's just one of those things. Be thankful you didn't actually lose anything. And although you can't leave them feedback (because the transaction was never completed) you can name them here in the Good Bad and Ugly so others are prepared for flaky behavior.

These episodes are rare. Most members have integrity and wouldn't have backed out without discussing the matter with you. You obviously don't like what happened so put the person on your ignore list. Unless the guy has recurrent dirt-bag issues, leave it at that.

First rule for sellers:

Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the selling price. There is no "testing the waters" or "gauge buyer interest".

I agree with miguet. If all you read is GBU, you could think we have a lot of flakes here, but they are a minority. When they get to be an inconvenience, * splash *

I would not do business with darrex after this.

^ Well said. At the end of the day, the thread served as a warning to many of the buyers and sellers on the forum, and quite a few folks added another one to the "do not deal" list.

I've done this once, and the buyer generously allowed me to refund him. Had he refused, I'd have said a sad farewell to his knife and sent it on it's way.
