CRK grease question

I just got my first tube of CRK grease. It took me a little while but i finally decided to check it out, mainly for 3 reasons.

1. what better product to put on CRK knives than CRK grease?
2. I've repeatedly seen it so highly spoken of here on blade forums.
3. I'm tired of excess oil collecting lint and dust around the pivot of the knife.

anyway, i just cleaned my sebenza and applied it. It was extremely easy to use, and noticeably easier to use than various oils I've tried. The knife is now very smooth but not very slick. It kind of feels like a new knife, which i guess is good in many ways.

i'm curious if there is some break in period to speed up the movement again? Again, it's very very smooth but very slow.

5/3 update - so is it possible i bought some knock off CRK grease? this stuff does not seem to work very well. It's been days and although it's improved, it's still not very quick at all... in fact, even the original smoothness seems to have roughened up a little bit. I'm so surprised at this i think it's some fake stuff.

i will post a pick of the tube and packaging. Can i also post the eBay link? or is that a forum no no?

5/4 update - the stuff is totally legit and bought from a reputable and authorized dealer. If you're still interested of the details read on.

maybe when you assembled it you pinched a washer? that would be my guess, the grease shouldnt slow down the movement, unless you really put a lot on there.

It's definitely not pinched... the movement is perfectly smooth. It's just kind of slow. maybe i used too much.

That's a good suggestion. I'll give it another try. thanks.

Thats a normal condition, It will get slicker in a day or so, The light oils make it slick right a way but they down last. With the CRK grease it will get slick and stay slick way longer than with the other oils. :D:D:D Rick :D:D:D

In my experience, it gets a little stiffer after cleaning with the CRK grease, but it will speed back up after a little bit:D

Rickster is quite right. It's "slickness" will improve in a short time. However in my experience the viscosity of the grease and the close tolerances of the Sebenza result in a uniform opening and closing action that is more smooth than slick. The difference in speed between using a low viscosity oil and the teflon based grease is at most a small fraction of a second. More like a well designed roller bearing than sliding on wet ice. In my use, the grease lasts substantially longer than a thinner oil based lube. It does unfortunately retain a small amount of pocket lint and dust. OldDude1

thanks guys... vastly improved overnight! hopefully it continues to speed up.

this pic is from the listing, i can take my own too but haven't had a chance. I noticed the packaging is a little different than CRK's website.

here's another image from a known dealer that has different labels and packaging

When you installed the washers back in you may have flipped them. Which would cause you to basically have to break in the knife again.

I'm usually very careful about that, but it's possible. did you have a look at those pics? does the first pic look unusual at all?

I'd maybe disassemble and check the washers. If they look ok, I'd give it another day or so. I can't see anyone bootlegging CRK grease to make a whopping $12 bucks. Just my two cents.

Did it come from Moore Cutlery?

I'm just looking now, and i see that the second image is from Moore Cutlery, but that is not the image in question (i just pulled that one from Google images). The first image i post is from the ebay listing where i bought it.

So with that said, no.. i didn't buy it from Moore Cutlery.

Can anyone confirm that they have bought CRK grease that came with the same labeling and packaging as that of the 1st image?
