CRK, how about offering a Sebenza with G-10 or Carbon Inlay?

Chris Reeve Knives,
While I certainly appreciate the warmth and beauty of natural wood, I personally find G-10 or Carbon a bit more functional as a knife scale. In fact, I think black G-10 would contrast nicely with against a plain Sebenza. How about offering us this option as oppose to just wood inlay? I would certainly buy one.

The wood inlays, decorated and/or damascus blades add a great deal of beauty to the knife, but decrease the functionality a bit to most users. Adding CF or G-10 inlays would be a difficult and expensive addition to the knife, and wouldn’t add to the looks nearly as much, even though I do like Carbon Fiber.

Bob,

IMHO, it's not a tactical folder.

Awhile back, I emailed and tried to get Chris to do an abalone inlay or black lip pearl just like they do the wood inlay. I was told that Chris said the ONLY thing they will put on the Seb is wood. Bummer.

It sure would be beautiful!

Probably gonna start a heated discussion here...but this is what decides, for me at least, whether CRK knives are production or custom. And my thought is production. Granted extremely well-made production. But if you can't order one with a specific scale inlay material, then it isn't a custom IMHO.

Stjames, I agree it's tough to beat the attractiveness of wood, but I sometimes find my Ti scales to be a bit on the slippery side, especially if they’re worn. You also mentioned about the expense and practicality of adding CF or G-10; however, as a layman, I fail to see how it could be difficult to grind down a few G-10.

Rgray, where does it say a knife has to be tactical in order to adorn G-10? The Sebenza is touted as a working knife. I see nothing wrong in complimenting it with composite. In fact, I think the addition of a G-10 scale would offer flexibility and add function to an already excellent knife.

I hope Chris Reeve would re-consider this. I would love to sport my Sabie with a G-10 over lay.

Bob, I think the added machining alone would add significant cost to the knife. CF would be a great addition, I have a couple of CF Bolster-lock knives from Allen Elishewitz that I love. It’s just that the basic Sebenza is so functional, I doubt that the Company would go through all the trouble for such a small functional improvement. I would love one, but not if it adds $100+ to the cost of the knife. The decorations are worth that to me, as well as the cost of the Wood Inlays.

hey bob, i don't really care for wood but instead prefer the strong industrial look and feel of the ti scales. i do like your idea about g-10 or cf scales.it sounds like that won't happen from the factory.did you see this thread a few weeks ago?? oh never mind...i just re-read it and i see that you posted there....it's regarding the sebenza "2001". i like that one. i'll bet it wouldn't be too difficult to make over-lays of these materials. anyway, thanks for reading....rob

Anybody think of making a G-10 scale cover, sililar to the Circuit Board? I can't remember who was responsible for the work or the photos. If somebody decided to make G-10 or Micarta scale covers instead of inlays, would you have to have longer screws to attach it to the knife? Just curious.

moe,http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum29/HTML/000920.html check this out. jonny says you don't need to use longer screws....rob

when you drill the hole you need to put the chamfer on the hole to make the screws can screw in more deeply , since the screw is full length of the opposite screw cap , tighten in only 2/3 of the screws is no big deal, the knife's strength is relay on the screw cap not the screws it self .

therefore if you only add a thin layer on the front scale ( right hander ) it will not weak the knife strength .

IMHO
