Is there a chance, given that CRK made a Larrin MC blade and was happy about the process, that CRK will skip over the S45VN and go for MC blades as soon as possible?

That would be one heck of an evolution regarding blade steel for CRK..

What are your thoughs?

I think availability of MagnaCut will be an issue for a while, not to mention they would want to use up whatever stock they have on hand first and it took them a long time to use up the last of their S35VN. I wouldn't expect it very soon.

Have you tried S45VN ? I have one custom knife in it and it rocks !

No, but from what I understand it's pretty close to S35VN. A little better in all segments but not by much.

I wouldn’t expect CRK to switch over to MagnaCut blade steel for many, many years from now.

I don't know, Tim seems to be a lot more prone to try new things than his father was.

Maybe they could even sell off the remaining S35/45VN, and go straight to MC.

If this steel is all it is supposed to be and further testing shows the great results of previous testing, it would be a great upgrade for CRK.

How much steel stock does CRK buy at a time? 6 months? I doubt they stock more than that. S45 was 1st offered Jan 2021.

S45VN has always struck me as more of a marketing strategy than anything else...

On the other hand, what I have read about MagnaCut suggests that it may well be a substantial improvement over previous offerings -- but, who knows?

My game plan is to just wait it out. In the meantime I will hunt for a nice damascus blade (or two).

One of my friends went to the factory a while ago. Tim told him that there would be a batch of MCS in the middle of next year, but I am not sure if this information is accurate. If there is one, I will buy it without hesitation.

Well it looks like they did it.

If you look at the Insingo and Tanto blades on the Sebenza 31s, they have the steel as Magnacut.

Looks like I will be getting one of those soon.

Yes, but the insingo and tanto blades are listed as TBA on the direct order page, while the drop points are 22-26 months out. At least the switch to MagnaCut seems to be coming soon, and with a 63-64 hrc.

Wait.. Did my eyes deceive me or are they doing wood inlays in Insngo and Tanto now?

I mentioned this in another thread, but I heard Tim Reeve say on a podcast that everything should be switched over to MagnaCut by the end of this year.
I wonder if they're going to do fixed blade runs in Magnacut as well.
