I'm probably going to end up with either one of these as a general use outdoors fixed blade.

Which one should I go with and will I be under knifed with having just a 5.5" FB?

Thanks!

I think you would be fine. I have carried a 7" SR camp tramp elk hunting, but frankly, the 4" knife I had previously served me very well.

I have an Ubejane that I am going to try out this year. The CRK one peice line enjoys a tremendous retutation. I think you would be well served.

I think you will do a lot less chopping than you might imagine.
Cleaning fish, cutting rope, opening packages, cutting hot dog roasting stick, whittleing a make shift tent peg. Those might be a little more common.

I've had a Shadow IV and a Mountaineer II. The Shadow is a little more stout, but I preferred the Mountaineer for its single guard and higher grind. If it matters to you, the fit and finish on both of these knives was perfect.

I'm sure others will chime in, but you might also want to consider some of BRKT's offerings.
