Hey Folks-
I just bought one of these to send to my son who is stationed in the Middle East. Decided on it based on some input from a SF Major who did 3 tours in Afghanistan. He pretty much said a knife blade longer than 5.5 inches was not needed and that he used his Swiss Army Knife and his Leatherman more than anything else.
The blade on this knife is 6 inches (a little outside the recommendation), but otherwise seems just right - I especially like the Spec-Ops sheath.
I would welcome any comments, especially from those who have been there and have first hand experience. My son is a LTC on staff duty, and therefore unlikely to be involved in hand-to-hand combat, but I feel about a knife like I feel about my concealed carry pistol - "I rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it."
This is his 5th tour in the Middle East - 2 in Egypt (one with the Multinational Force and Observers), he was in Desert Storm (where he earned a Bronze Star with "V" for operations against the Republican Guard as the XO of a tank company)(Just had to get a little bragging in - sorry!), and two recent tours where he is stationed in Kuwait, but travels around the Middle East frequently.
I've agonized over what knife to send him, and decided on this one for several reasons - but again, I would love to hear your comments.
