CRK or Strider - Another Take

I just sold one of my ultra concealable handguns for $500 that became unusable when I moved to communist California.

Was planning on spending the money on a nice knife and narrowed to Small Sebenza with Micarta, Umnumzaan or SNG DDG.

The Chris Reeve's knives are about $75 cheaper so if I got a Sebenza or Umnumzaan, I could also afford to get a Military, ParaMilitary or maybe a Ritter Grip.

I know there are a lot of opinions on which is better, the Striders or CRK, but when adding the extra knife to the CRK, is there anyone that would still go with the Strider (even if you are a Strider fan)?

Of course. None of this is about the money once we're looking at knives this expensive.

Personally I'm an ergos fan. I like knives that feel great in the hand.

To me, that means Striders best Sebenza's every time. I still plan on keeping a small seb one of these days, but right now, it's not for me.

I have not used a CRK but I do carry my DGG SnG on most days. It is by far my favorite EDC folder I have ever had. Knowing what I know now after using my SnG I would still go for the Strider. The other knife would be useless as I mostly carry the SnG.

I would buy that Spyderco Military first. There's a good chance you won't need a Seb or SnG after that. It slices and cuts better than either of them.

Striders really are aamazing ive handled a bunch but have never had the money. eventually im gonna get an smf and a tanto sng

i own or have owned sebenzas and a good number of sng's and an smf.

i use/carry a strider sng every day, probably for the past 6 years.

love the sebenza too. it's a great knife for sure. but usability/weight/resilience/warranty leads me to the strider for EDC. the sebenza is nice, but the reality (for me) is it's *too* nice to carry. i mean, i do and did carry my sebenza, and the handles are pretty trashed/scratched. but the blade is super sharp and pristine, because when it actually comes down to using a knife i always grab the sng.

for me the sebenza blade is too thin (comparably to sng) and the handles are too heavy for convenient carry. the warranty is awesome on striders and i've had them retuned many a time. for sebenzas, generally you have to pay a small fee (like 25 bucks) for a refurb.

but on the other hand, the sebenza is a considerably better cutter, more refined, and a joy to use because it's so smooth. if you're into really fine craftsmanship the sebenza is much for you. if you're for sheer usability the sng is the one.

and no, theres no good reason to carry two knives. carry one and use it! i wouldn't prefer to carry a sebenza + benchmade/spyderco.

i carried my sebenza + sng for a short while before i got tired of carrying the dead weight and just went with the sng solo.

Flip a coin and get one. I recommend getting the SnG/Strider first as they're (imo) a bit easier to move if you don't like it.

If you don't like it, sell it for at or just a little bit under what you paid for it and buy the other one.

If you don't like that one, sell it, and start collection Militaries. :D

If you are looking at a small seb why not look at a strider pt, I think it is actually less money.

The ergonomics of the Strider would send me in that direction. But, with these two brands/knives, buy one, try it, keep it if you like it. If you don't like it, sell it and get the other. You'd only be out a few dollars, and I'd think the experience would be rewarding. (Bear in mind that I've handled neither, so I'm speaking from what I've read & heard here. Both brands are highly respected for their quality.)

thx - cpr

I only need one knife and the Strider is my choice. I had a BG-42 Sebenza that never saw any pocket time once I got my DDC SnG CC. I later added another regular SnG for multi-tasking. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Matador-

I sold my um to buy an SNG.
I carry the SNG every day while at work, super ergos.
When at home just chillin the PT is in my pocket more great ergos.
I agree with the other posts Buy the Strider first if you don't like it and don't beat it up to bad you can sell it fast for a little less then you paid.

Communist california,WOW , sure do hear some crazy stuff here

Yeah, not too sure what Communism has to do with gun regulations.

Any commie country bans guns first thing. No exceptions in the history.
One of the first decrees Bolsheviks issued right after 1917 revolution was a gun ban.
Hitler took a little longer.

That said, I'd go for BG-42 Seb. I don't think S30V can exhibit its best properties as it is in Seb.

Thank you muchly. That's fascinating. I had no idea. Now you've got me curious about Communism and why S30V shines brighter in knives not named Sebenza.

You're gun stopped working when you moved, eh? I live in the same state, but you won't catch me selling any guns. I have a feeling that, farily soon, there will be a much bigger demand for guns than SnGs or Sebenzas, but I could be wrong. Back on topic, I'd suggest you get yourself the Spyderco Military and forget about the others.;)

Yeah, not too sure what Communism has to do with gun regulations.

When I lived in Washington State, I carried a S&W .38 Special +p. It is a great ultra-light carry gun, but not that great for anything else. I carried for about 15 years and amazing at it may sound, I actually never killed anyone or went on a shooting rampage. Guess what would happen to me, an honest , law abiding citizen if I carried in California.

Other than police and a few others (who deserve to and should carry), in California, mainly the elites get to carry and use guns for personal protection such as Arnold and Rosie, very much like a socialist or communist country. Oh yeah, almost forgot, the criminals also get to carry guns. That's whats crazy to me.
