CRK owners-- what is your favorite production knife under $200???

The only folders that could even hope to get some carry time over my zaan or large sebenza would have to be a Para 2 or Mini Ritter Grip. They both just happen to be less than $200.

I'm another guy sold on the Techno. I've been looking for a more rugged alternative to my Sm. Regular and always assumed I'd be looking for a larger knife. The Techno has changed my mind. I've owned knives from Strider, Hinderer, ZT, Lionsteel and full-on customs, but none of them got me excited like the Techno has. I don't feel like I'm carrying less of a knife in comparison to my Sebenza with the Techno in my pocket. It's certainly on par with anything else I've owned other than my CRKs and I'm looking pretty hard to find any meaningful difference to say my Sebenza is better built. Time will tell if this Spyderco holds up to use like my CRKs have, but at its price-point, I won't hesitate to use it hard.

Mini CQC-15, Para 2 or HEST 2.0

All of the above have been modified to some degree but are very nice IMO.

One last off-topic remark. I am drawn to that ugly little Techno but I thought they were like $190. Maybe we;ll have a look. The ti slabs look nice and thick. Might be nice....hmm? :) Thanks for your replies guys.

Do it! You will enjoy.

Only a little over $100 but when not carrying my small sebenza I love mini-grips

This was my favourite, but the Sebenza has bumped it..
And yes it was under $200..

I see a lot of people like their various spydercos. I just picked up my new sebenza, I think I need to use it a bit to fall in love with it but so far I am impressed. My para 2 might have a contender:)

Spyderco Techno.

Seriously.

I agree that the Sage 2 is ugly.
Nice action (better than my Sebenzas) but the blade is ugly and poorly finished.

The Techno on the other hand is awesome.

Better fit and finish than my Sebenzas.
Better action.
Massively better edge retention.

The Techno has a better "Bank Vault Feel" than a Sebenza.

I've never owned a Large Sebenza though, only smalls.
Not sure if this makes a difference?

Spyderco have hit it out of the park with this knife.
It is seriously that good.

I can't imagine a better "bank vault" feel than my large 21. I don't even know if that is possible to be more solid than the my large sebenza. Perhaps the small is just so light and thin that it doesn't have the same feel as the large or the techno. That being said, Spyderco's Taichung factory has produced some of the best fit and finish production knives. I started this thread with saying how much I love the para 2 but I sold a Gayle Bradley (and an M390 military) to get the sebenza. The reasoning for selling that one is that the sebenza would fill the same niche as my GB and I could just get another one if I felt it necessary. That GB was perfect in every way, the polished liners, very solid action, awesome lockup, in every way was on par with the finish of the sebenza. I have to say though, the lockup and "bank vault" champion is the sebenza between the two. (I would hope that was the case given the $300.00 premium). I have a weird thing about having too many knives that fill the same niche and like to keep a small (3-4) stable of knives I will carry. I have no doubt that the "mighty mouse" techno is every bit the knife you say it is based on my experience with the gayle bradley from that same factory.

By far, my favorite non-Reeve knife is the Emerson Traveler. It's crude and unrefined but it just feels right and I love it.

I think the Techno feels so solid, in large part, due to its' compact size. You have a knife that is very stout in a smaller package. The lock-bar is much shorter than that on a full size Sebenza, yet is wider at the cut-out. As result, it makes for a very solid feeling lockup. I'll say again that I believe the Techno will have to put in months, if not years, to be able to be compare to a Sebenza in terms of longevity, but it certainly feels as solid.

I have a very hard time believing that the Techno has better fit and finish than a CRK. And I personally love the Taichung Spydercos, I think they are the best full production knives available. But they simply aren't set up to achieve the type of tolerances that CRK regularly puts out. Do me a favor, take out the pivot from both your Techno and a Sebenza, I mean completely remove it. What happens? On my Spydercos, the blade moves all the way to touching the scale as soon as the pivot is loosened at all, then the blade falls out when the pivot is removed. On my Sebenzas, the blade doesn't move a hair. In fact there is absolutely no blade play at all, even with the pivot completely removed! THAT is fit and finish.

Sorry, I mean no offense, but the term fit and finish gets thrown around with little context.

EDIT: so that I'm not completely derailing the thread, my favorite <$200 production knife is the Spyderco Chokwe.
