CRK Quality Rivals?

Well they are pricier than CRK but handling few Rockstead knives(Higo,Hizen),I can surely say they are the only ones who can match(possibly outmatch)CRK in terms of F@F,tolerances and craftsmanship. That being said they do cost twice as much. And I would rather spend a grand on them than on any custom blade out there, because they are built to be used not pampered and showcased. My 2 cents.

Really? A knife with a mirror polish in the blade that had to be sent back to Japan for sharpening is made to be used more than an rj Martin/Kirby Lambert?

I have visited a few high end knife shops, there arent many companies that offer similar fit and finish, and if they do, much higher price.

Thank you, was just going to say something along the lines of this.

I'll take my customs that were actually made to be used over a 1k, aluminum handled production knife that I can't sharpen myself.

I've owned a couple Sebenzas.
Both were very well put together and had no defects that I could tell.

I own two Hinderers and the fit and finish is equal to the Sebenza in my opinion at a higher price.
The several Taiwan Spydercos I own and have handled are comparable at less than half the price of the Sebenza.

The majority of people will instantly recognize the quality difference between a China Smith and Wesson and a CRK.
The difference between the Taiwan Syderco and CRK will be harder to see. The average person will not see it or if they do they will not be able to justify the cost difference.

If you strop the blade after few time you use it does not need sharpening.Friend of mine is using his Rockstead Higo for over a year with just occasional stroping and knife is in great shape. After cleaning it inside there is absolutely no wear and tear on the inside parts.Tolerances are amazing, everything fits perfect.Different taste and opinions for different folks but Rockstead is out of this world.Buy it,borrow it,try it and you will see what I'am talking about.

It is so much more to Rockstead than Duraluminum handle. Some folks find out some dont want to.Like I said everyone spends money on knives they like.Iam expresing my own opinions backed by my experience with Rockstead knives.Cheers.

I have no issues with Rocksteads pricing, construction or fit and finish.

I don't even have an issue with using them.

My issue is saying that it was made to be a user more than some of the user oriented customs I mentioned.

I lived in Japan for many years and Rocksteads remind me of Japanese kitchen knives. They are sharp, as are William Henry's (which use Japanese steels as well), but they have a feel that does nothing for me.

William Henrys are on par with CRKs for production quality, but they are more dressy and more expensive. CRK Mnandis and WH's are very similar (I own both).

I'm curious--what exactly are we basing quality preferences on? I do not own a CRK, but have handled several at various shops and shows. They're clearly nice, but I think I must be missing something, because none of them made me want to drool or anything, and I wasn't shocked by the sharpness, smoothness of opening, or ergos. I'm not saying I disagree or anything; I believe you all when you say they're the best. I just need me some education on what all you're going gaga over. Right now, a Matt Diskin Fire comprises the entirety of my folding knife wish list, outside of maybe a Darrel Ralph custom (and with some of the recent QC issues, I'm waiting on that as well).

-edit- Had a thought. I expect many people will just start listing things off, like, wow, the F&F is so great, and, wow, the lockup is perfect every time, etc. I guess I'm slow, and rather than go through all that and still be confused, would it be possible to get a side by side photo of a CRK and a lower quality top-line production model that highlights the point? I'm particularly interested in things that affect the utility and efficiency of the knife, rather than the cosmetics.
