My sebenza is a nice knife, but the out-of-box edge was nowhere near a custom knife.
Sharpening is an interesting thing. I've handled customs and mid techs that were not very sharp, even though people raved about how sharp they were, as well as some that were properly sharpened for cutting. They all had nicely polished, very shiny edge bevels, but weren't good cutters in their original, for sale condition. My Sebenzas were acquired used, so I have no idea what kind of edge they had when they were new from the box.
I should probably clarify: when I said that Sebenza is the benchmark for me, I meant it in the sense that it's the standard by which I assess other folders. I think some people interpreted "benchmark" as me suggesting that I think it's the best knife ever created or will ever exist.
