CRK tolerances

I ever read of CRK precise tolerances so I bought one Inkosi and one Sebenza. The Inkosi is perfect while the Sebenza has a blade centering defect. So, because it would cost too much ship it for a spa treatment from Europe, I decided to sand one of the washer (almost as tissue paper) and now the centering is better. I asked them to ship a couple of washer to adjust centering but they told me they have to adjust washer for my knife. So, if each knife is different from another, how their tolerances can be definite precise?? What a disappointment...

Do you have a Carbon Fiber Sebenza (not the inlays)? Those apparently have centering issues.

Even with the tightest tolerances, there is variation. The washers are sanded down in house on each knife to achieve optimal centering, smoothness, and action. Some knives might need 1/1000ths sanded off, while another night need 1/250th sanded off due to ever so tiny manufacturer size differences. I guess whoever built that knife was new, or had an off day.

My Umnumzaan came a hair off center. I also didn't want to ship a brand new knife from Europe, but I just threw it in my pocket and use the hell out of it. Centering has improved after break-in and a few cleanings.

This is why I couldn't use and eventually sold my Shirogorov. It was perfect, however if it ever required service it would have been a major pain to get it to Russia and back.

In terms of tolerances and how the washers get adjusted per knife, you should take a look at the CRK shop tour on youtube and it will give you a better idea of how each knife is done. That said, there is obviously something off with this knife. I'm not an expert but I'll throw out the requisite "did you check and make sure your washers aren't pinched?" comment and reviewed any videos on how to slide the blade in to make sure you don't pinch the washers because that's always the first thing people will say to check. My apologies if you've done that already.

To many knife owners are anal about perfect centering. I'd like to know your experiences with daily knife usage in the workplace with a slightly out-of-center blade. Thoughts?

I became anal when I pay 350$ for one knife...whose maker has the reputation of producing perfect knives...though thanks

Some things I can overlook but I like a dead centered blade. I mean why not for that level of fit and finish? That is good of you Germany Chris I hope he takes you up on your offer
