CRK vs The Knife World

I love my sebbies, but I also agree that they're not the end all be all in the mid tech semi custom world. The marketplace is expanding with more options so we consumers now have more choices in that segment. (this is a good thing). I do concede that they set the benchmark in that segment.

I got my VECP back when they were still going for $350 :P

I love that blade. Do I like it more than my recently acquired large micarta 21? I'm not sure. They each have their quirks. What I can say is that they're both in my top 3-5 knives.

I need to reprofile my VECP so I can do some testing. The stock edge is too thick. Which is a shame since the blade itself is ground nice and lean.

If you want a sebenza, buy a sebenza. You may also one day graduate to customs, where better steels, heat treat, locks, and handle designs will be available along with great F&F and service from the maker. I personally skipped over CRK completely. Good knives from all accounts, but so are Spydercos and Benchmades. When I decided to upgrade, I upgraded to ordering specifically what I wanted, as well as getting custom makers to regrind, reshape, and replace parts of other production knives in ways I felt would improve them. Other routes to consider.

I get what you're saying. I have a Sebenza but rarely carry it. I prefer my "lesser" Spydies, Kershaws, and Benchmades for EDC. And lately I really enjoy customizing the blades into my vision of the ideal knife. There's lots of blade options available for a fraction of the cost of a CRK. It certainly takes a hit on the resale, so it makes sense to re-shape something like an Endura, Stretch, or Benchmade Bone Collector.

The only reply i can think of is, buy what you want. I don't mean that in a snide way. I mean it quite literally. If you want a knife and it "costs too much" so you buy a cheaper knife, you'll never be really happy, and chances are that eventually you'll buy the one you originally wanted anyway.

As to the "CRK vs The Knife World" thing, I don't see it. There are dozens of really awesome makers out there producing knives that some would find to be every bit as good as a CRK for their needs.

I don't really want a CRK, because i prefer flippers, and don't love the blade shapes on any of his knives. I personally bought a Zermeno Azrael because I fell in love with the design the moment i saw it.

Some love Sebenzas some love Hinderers, and some are happy with a Kershaw. There's no competition in the way that your thread title indicated. It's not CRK or crappier knives, it's Knives you really want, or knives you "can afford"

I can never decide between a large or a small, insingo vs not so I'm not ever going to get one.
