CRK without paperwork

I'm looking to get my first CRK, probably a large or small Sebenza. I know I'll buy used, and with used you all know that it isn't certain that it'll come with all the bells and whistles. I'm just wondering if the birthday card is that important in terms of resale value and I guess authenticity?

It use to not matter, however, with the flood of fakes on the market it is good to get paper work. Also, try and buy from people on BF with a good reputation. Do your research.

When buying a user it's nice to know the date of manufacture and it guarantees it's authentic.
So yeah make sure it has papers. Helps resale bigtime!

Personally, when dropping that kinda cash I think paying a little extra for the peace of mind is something you do not something you don't...

It def 100% helps re-sale value.

Unless I get a REALLY good deal on a used without a birth certificate, then ill take it.

But otherwise I always want at least the certificate, I can do without the box if need be.

I called CRK once on this subject and, IIRC, one of the pretty (and capable) girls on the phone told me that if I send in my knife for a spa job/inspection, that they do have a capability of verifying the folder and supplying a "replacement" birthcard. And boxes and blue cloths are easy enough to find. Not a problem. I believe that CRK will return your spa-job folder in a "box" (perhaps without specific labeling). They might sell you a blue microfiber cloth also. If not, they can be found on the "water."
I THINK I'm right. Good thing, too, as last wk I bought a small Sebbie that came with nothing other than plastic wrap. But, I knew that in advance; no foul.

CRK will indeed verify the authenticity as well as supply you with a box and a birth card; however, the birth card will state that it is a "re-issued" card and will have the date of the refurb and not the original birthdate. In addition, the box will be generic--meaning that it will not have the sticker with "Small Sebenza 21" or otherwise on it.

For me, I have to buy the knife at a decent discount if it does not come with all the original goodies, not so much for authenticity purposes, but simply because having all the original goodies appeals to me.

So the rule of thumb is that: buy used mane sure it has birthday card. If it doesn't, get it at a significant discount. Would $320 for a large classic seb double thumb lug no paperwork, be considered a significant discount?

Without a Gold membership you are technically not supposed to get values on knives; however, if you are questioning the authenticity or would like some folks with CRK experience to have a look and give their opinion on its general condition then post pictures and a description in a new thread in the CRK forum and you will get plenty of feedback.

I think the rule of thumb would be a discount, but not really a significant one. If I plan on using it I don't really need a card.

Yes, that sounds like a fair price.
