CRKT Any Good?

Haha, I meant to say this thread has been dead, not the actual forum. Thanks for catching that, I will correct it.

Nice of you :^D

Anyway CRKT was medium but solid manufacturer 30 years ago.
Now ?
You guys can say it by yourself ...

It's probably a good thing that Lion Steel makes the Hirin I bought from CRKT since they don't seem capable of making a higher end production knife.

I agree with Tsujigiri, generally for entry level knives, I would look to Spyderco's Byrd knives, Kershaws, and Cold Steel. I would stay away from CRKT, Gerber, S&W.. basically what you see at walmart

Look at the Ontario Rat1 and Rat2. And if a steel upgr^^^ade is important, get the D2 for a bit more money. Great bargain. For a big user, look at the Cold Steel 4 inch Voyager. Also a bargain.

This ^^^^

That said, I've owned and own a few CRK&Ts and some of them provided decent value and performance for the money but, as posted by others, there are better options.

CKRT is probably my favorite brand overall because of the unique designs they come up with and they're reasonably priced. Most of their knives use 8CR steel so they're not going to appeal to someone looking for maximum edge retention. I've also heard of people having hit and miss issues with quality but mine have been good overall. My blade is off centered on my Tighe Tac Two that I can't seem to get centered but the knife opens, closes and functions fine.

CRKT is just one of those companies that constantly comes up with new ideas and the price is so low it's hard to pass up on some of them. The CEO, BT Fighter, Tighe Tac Two, Fulcrum, Rollock, and Snap Lock are just some of the examples. I will admit that some are pretty much just novelty items and not practical for everyday or hard use but I'm a sucker for unique designs and fidget factor.

I would have to agree with you S SkyStream , CRKT does come out with some unique designs. That's one of the reasons I liked the Hirin so much. It's a great looking knife and it cuts like a dream. It's mostly a safe queen, but I use it occasionally for light duty cutting tasks.
I bought a Pilar (Pilarge) yesterday as an impulse buy when I was picking up my Griptilian from my local knife shop after leaving it there to get sharpened. The Pilar has been on my wishlist and it was $40, so I figured why not? It's in 8Cr14MoV, but I don't mind it. Would have preferred to see CRKT try to use D2 at that price point, but I'm not mad at it and I know they do make a version of it in D2 for about $10-15 more. I would have gotten it in D2 had I not bought the knife on impulse and took my time to find one. I'm happy with the knife though, the ergonomics are some of the best on a knife I've ever felt, came out of the box razor sharp, blade is perfectly centered, and overall fit and finish quality is pretty good.

Based on my experience with a 1990's Gerber lockback, I wouldn't buy another Gerber if they paid me a grand to take it; unless I could put it in the dumpster, drop it off a bridge into the middle of the Snake River, or dispose of it unused, as soon as I got home if not sooner.

The old no name made in Japan P.O.S knife shaped objects you could buy for well under a dollar at the local gas station back in the 1950's to 1970's were infinitely better than that allegedly "Made in USA" Gerber.
(In the 1950's to 1970's, "Made in Japan" (with the sole possible exception of Sun Tour ("The Poor Man's Campaglono") bicycle parts. Even Shimano was under the barrel (forget "scraping the bottom of the barrel" quality. A Shimano anything wasn't even that good.) garbage back then.) was considered much worse than "Made in China" has ever been ... "Made in Afghanistan" or "Made in Pakistan" is generally thought of more highly today, than "Made in Japan" was back in the 1950's to late 1970's!)

The CRKT Ken Onion "Ripple" and I forget the designer's name "SLIP KISS" were good knifes.
The Ripple I had possessed aluminum handles. The clip screws pulled out, destroying the threads.
The Poltergeist in "my" expedited over the road box truck, (or possibly her sister), stole the rSlip Kiss, and took it to her home realm/world/dimension. The Slip Kiss is one of three knives she never brought back and hid in the truck where I would never put a knife ... like under one of the sleeper bunk mattresses, in one of the side boxes, down the (not operational sink) drain, (the sink had a bathroom sink type push/pull rod stopper/plug over the drain, too.) inside a Vape Mod box, inside a jar of Folgers Red instant coffee, bottle of powdered and/or liquid real or generic "Coffee Mate" ....
I don't know if she had anything to do with the clip pulling off the Ripple.
(I drove solo for the most part; so no co-driver to be pulling pranks on me. As a matter of fact, during the rare times I had a co-driver, she more or less behaved herself... at least until she got bored after a week or so...)

(I sure am glad she stayed with the truck, and none of her kin followed me when I had to retire (knock on wood). :D )
