CRKT collectors?

Anyone actually collect these things?

Only by default I have a Kiss, a Peck, a Stiff Peck, an original Mac Commander, an M-16, an M18 1* Fireman model, Large and Small Point Guards, and maybe 1 or 2 more I forgot about.

Does it make me a collector, no just an accumulator.

What do you know about knives... the only thing you know about are trolls who stab people for looking at them the wrong way and then claim self defense on a public forum... :p

I do. I think that CRKT does excellent collaborations and always is willing to explore new avenues. They have the most diverse line of locking mechanisms and designs that I can think of. Whoever decides what models to produce has IMHO an excellent eye for design. The fit and finish is excellent especially at their price point. I'm not a steel snob and I don't mind sharpening. Besides, for the stuff I'm cutting, AUS 6 or 6M is fine. Also, they can be had for a song in the aftermarket. Win-win in my book.

as I said on another thread "I love these knives"...value for money ....good useable designs...but as far as being a die hard collector of them ....well I dont think I want my cabnits overwelmed by a production knife apearance.

a few good samples of everything is the theme I'm going for......besides my tastes change on a monthly basis....

fun isnt it?

I've always liked the CF M16's.

Have two spearpoints. I'll probably pick up some of the tanto versions too when the oppurtunity comes up.

I generally find their knives to be too gimmicky. I do enjoy the mechanisms they come up with, and I think with more thought and effort, they could have some really nice pieces. It just seems like they release products too early.
Example: I think that the Van Hoy Snap Lock is pretty nifty. It is fun to open, and I like the idea of it being ampi-friendly, but the over all knife is a dud. The handle is too uncomfortable and would not work well for serious cutting. Perhaps if they had spent some more time on the entire design instead of just the mech, it would have been a great knife. I really doubt that they're going to make similar knives to this one. Thus, the potentially awesome mechanism is dead in the water.

On a seperate note, I like most of their AUS-8 blades. I loved the M-16compact spearpoint and wish that I still it. I am EXTREMELY impressed by their ti coated blades. I can't believe the coating holds up so well. I've never seen anything like it!

CRKT is good for getting people interested in knives. You can find some neat designs at a good price.

wow, i can ramble a lot!

CRKT's are REAL knives.put one in your hand, feel it, weigh it...then pick up your custom job.Ebay sells M1's for $30 bucks! lose or accidently abuse your custom job.........big trouble.Break a CRKT (I Doubt it would be easy, those things are stout) you are out little but a tank of gas and a trip back to the place where you bought the last one. I see more CRKT's on LE and Milt guys then all other knives combined.Wanna know why? what LE/Milt guy gets paid enough to buy some custom job? very few. And that little flipper deal they put on the blade? beats a hole or blade grommet anyday speed and ease wise.I may own some custom Guns and Folders...but they are "Court guns and knives" for dressup not for EDC.lets be honest, you're gonna take your sebenza or other custom knife and come crab digging or cut/shave targets for a CQB course with me or are you going to use your CRKT? going to expose that custom blade to sand/salt and cardboard and 4x4's??? yeah, exactly! thought so.Salute to CRKT and the custom guys who put forth thier designs to CRKT for us regular folks.

I've got:

Large Point Guard
Small Kasper Crawford
Kasper Companion
M16 EDC
Rollock
Kiss
M1

Yeah, I collect them.

Great value for money. Not great steel but you get what you pay for. Well built. And I would have no hesitation using them.

IMHO you cannot blame CRKT for the designs, as in the Snap Lock example given by Knireclerk. CRKT merely produces for the masses existing custom designs. If CRKT changes a design too much, the design would no longer be a collaboration and probably would lose much of its appeal.

I have several CRKTs, 2 of them for collection - Mirage Gray Ghost and Ti Mirage.

You know, I like everything from them that I have bought. But that is only three knives now. The latest one is really awesome. It is the Serengeti Hunter three in one. I love the thing. I guess the only thing I don't like about CRKT is the Taiwan thing. I would love to see them say made in the USA but of the three I've bought they all say Taiwan on them.

Is the Mirage Grey Ghost of any value? I just found one whilst rummaging through my knife drawer (that's right, a drawer full of knives.) I don't recall being terribly impressed by it, but it does have nice lines.

When did the M16 get LAWKS? I brought the last one knifecenter had with a plain edge and it doesn't have a LAWKS feature.

never really thought of collecting them, until that sweet, black and gold montana came out. It is a classy looking knife. that one may start a little CRKT collection for me. Paul

I've got a couple of CRKT's.

I like them and they are as "down to earth" as you can get, as are their prices.

Real world prices.....for a real world knife.
