CRKT Crawford/Kasper Folder...opinions?

a couple of years ago i had the large one and liked it pretty well, it seems they downgraded the steel though so be careful. seems like it started at aus 8 and then changed to aus 6, mine was 8 and worked well.

The fact is the zytel handled model never had aus8. CRKT advertised it from the beginning as aus6 and called the all metal handled model "The Professional Model" and having a higher grade steel (aus8). The reason I remember is I used to get their catalogs and wound up with both models and I always research any purchase very thoroughly. Whether the zytel model ever was downgraded from aus6, I don't know as I had acquired both types early on.

Zytel handle C/K Folder was one of the heaviest folders on market - over 210g(7 oz.)
But because of size and grip it was great Pdf(primary defence folder), but it never made a good utility knife - thick blade, low primary grind. thin false edge, needle point tip. But after all utility wasn't purpose of Kasper when designing this knife.

There is another knife somewhat similar to C/K F - it's Timberline Worden tactical - although it's handle and blade has more "east taste" than "western modern" shape of CRKT, but it's also over 7 oz. heavy, almost 10inches long, and offer incredible grip(and aus8 blade). And like in crkt, you can use hefty backspacer to drive nails (or bash skulls)

My $50 CRKT Kasper Crawford is my favorite sit-in-the-truck-console-and-cut-all-kinds-of-stuff knife: big, beefy, rugged, easy to sharpen.

My $1800 mammoth tooth Mike Norris damascus Kasper Crawford sits on a display stand on a shelf. It won't be cutting all kinds of stuff anytime soon :)
