CRKT didn't totally screw up 2005...

Handled them both in Vegas. I'm pretty sure they used at least AUS6 for the steel, maybe AUS8.

Here's pics:

Specs:

Two new Pat & Wes Crawford assisted opening designs, the Voodoo and Wild Weasel (both $130), are both their first assisted opening blades and the first knives produced in the U.S by CRK&T. Scales are hard anodized gray aluminum with stainless liners, dual thumb studs, and ambidextrous pocket clip. The blades are 420HC stainless, bead blasted and available with either plain or combo edge. The scales have black Santoprene inserts. The Wild Weasel has a drop point blade with a thumb ramp and long false edge. The Voodoo blade is a spear point with three graduated holes in the spine. Neither knife is equipped with a lanyard hole.

$130 is too expensive for 420HC stainless. Is the steel heat treated?

They look good but will they cut or hold an edge?

Of course it's heat treated, it would be 40 RC or lower if it wasnt. 420HC is used on the 200$ buck strider fixed blades

The buck strider fixed blades are heat treated by Paul Bos. Do the new Crawfords hold an edge? How does the CRKT 420HC compare to their AUS 6 and AUS 8?

not to knock paul bos' skills, but it don't take a paul bos to heat treat a knife properly... Knives have been made sharp and strong long before and will be long into the future.

420HC is not generic 420 or 420J2. It's not the latest and greatest, but it is a perfectly serviceable midlevel material.

The Voodoo is an evil design. :D The Wild Weasel is their Perfigo in a collaborative version. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do a Perseco, too, with the big wharnecliff blade.

Does anybody else think these look like designs from United Cutlery? I half expect these knives to say "Harley Davidson" or "Colt" on the other sides.
I just don't think these look very good. Plus, for $25 LESS you could buy a Kershaw Blur. (I assume we're all still talking in MSRP at this point.)

The new Crawfords aluminum scales do not look cheap in my opinion. Microtech uses primarily aluminum scales and I really like aluminum scales. You can buy Benchmades, Emersons, Spydercos, etc. with higher grade steels for $130. Unless these Crawfords are offered at a lower price than $130, i think most knife collectors with knowledge of steel will buy higher grades steel knives from other knife manufacturers.

They are actually Pat Crawford designs:

I agree wholeheartedly, but there are people out there that specifically collect CRKTs and I'm sure they will snap them up!

Not my cup of tea though.

the Weasel looks reasonably nice and useable, but the Voodoo doesn't do nothing for me. i also think the scales are ugly on both knives (those dot-inserts thingys). 420HC is good stuff, like Buck uses on many of their knives, like the 110. it's sharpened easily and holds its edge rather well, it's no s30v though......

all in all they seem OK, but i mean......$130??!! c'mon! i don't think it will sell very well due to its price.

My concern is that these are assisted opening knives with what appears to be only thumb studs for deployment.

Has anyone tried opening an assisted knife with the studs? It's just asking for a cut on the thumb...

SOG Flash is thumb only

Then that one bothers me too ;)

Call me crazy but I wouldn't push my thumb against the blade of an auto when I fire it, not much different with an assisted opener IMO.

Yup, exactly why I didnt like the SOG Flash. I wish the Crawford was unassisted. I've always liked the real one, but it wasn't NYC legal

i'm diggin' that Voodoo!... hrm.... 420HC is good, y'all say? what can i ballpark it against? AUS-8? 6?

i also dislike AOs that solely use the thumbstud to start the motion. my Blink did that, and i constantly rubbed the blade/edge when i opened it. never cut myself, but i always had to exercise a GOB of caution when opening that knife. much more than any other model i've used. bleh.

still... i like the flappy and paddle-y handles. very silly looking, but in a good way.
