Has anyone handled the CRKT Hammond ABC Operator model yet? Despite the tanto point, it looks like a nice multi-purpose knife. How well does it carry concealed? How's the sheath?

If I remember correctly from the summer, it felt quite good in the hand. Yes I to recall being impressed by it. Heftier than the stiff kiss that I have but it has G-10 handles I think. It is CRKT so it won't be that expensive and will have a decent blade steel AUS...whatever. Hope I was of some help. Take Care!!!

Hi,

How do you want to carry the knife concealed? It configures to a wide variety of options. I carry mine on my right hip tucked in my pants with the safety clip on my belt (the clip has a catch that prevents it from slipping off the belt during drawing). I then cant it slightly to the right for easiest access.

The knife locks into the sheath either way, left handed or right, handles on or off. The scales are not G-10 but zytel patterned after textured G-10.

You can mount it horizontally, vertically, or inverted with either the mounting panels or the belt clip portion.

The main body of the sheath is approximately .37" thick at the outside curve, with it ~.62" thick at the mouth, where the retention aspect comes into play. There are 6 screws holding the body of the sheath together, and 4 vertical slots to adjust the position of the mounting pieces with their 4 screws (2 being used in the cross mounting mode). The slots also serve for mounting on the leg with 1" neoprene leg straps. The sheath completely separates and field strips for cleaning if needed.

You can use the belt loop, the BC panels for webbing, belts, harnesses, etc., tie wrap it in place, use leg straps, or with a neck chain for carry under the clothing.

The knife steel is AUS8, blade thickness is 3.8-4 mm (.1495-.1570"), mirror finished and then titanium nitride coated. The handle of the knife with scales attached is .390" thick with totally radiused edges. The newest ones will have serrations in both of the front finger grooves.

It's the most versatile production sheath design on the market as far as mounting options. There are no snaps or straps to mess with, and the retention resistance is adjustable to personal needs.

There is a sheet that's included with every knife that discusses the mounting options. If you contact me, I can email you a copy of these sheets.

The bulk of the current production of the tanto ABCs (model 2605) is shipping out for downrange distribution to the troops in the war zone at the present time but your local dealers should be able to get one for you. Retail price on it is $69.99.

Hope this helps.
Jim

I bought my one yesterday :)
The handle is the most comfortable, but I have problems with the sheath: the clip is not strong enough to hold the knife horizontally on the belt.

Hello Mr Hammond,

it's always nice to see a knife designer supporting his creations here on the forums!

I bought one of these in Bahrain recently and use it a lot here in Saudi. Very comfortable grip and nice blade. Love the sheath. I am a leftie and am always on the lookout for knives I can wear on the "right" side with the correct blade orientation for me. Nice knife.
