"HAWK K-AT
Grant Hawks K-AT knife/sheath system is a fresh, high tech rethinking of fixed blade carry, with a truly unique injection molded urethane sheath."
I got one of these little fixed blades this fall. It quickly found a new home on the shoulder strap of my backpack (a large hydration pack). I use this pack daily, for riding to work, xc-skiing, or just about whatever I am doing outside. The knife was a little dull out of the box, but smartened up quickly on a ceramic rod. Its held the edge fine, like most small knifes its usually just a box opener, sandwich cutter, etc.. no extreme duty.
I noticed today for the first time that the urethane sheath becomes very rigid in cold weather. I could not remove the knife from its sheath until warming it up inside with my body heat for a few minutes. It was about -15F out and I had ridden my bike probably 15 miutes before trying to remove the knife. So, don't plan on using this knife outside with these kind of temperatures.
My other beef with this knife is the sheath, while very versatile, is about 10 times bigger than it needs to be. Kind of negates the point of buying a small knife in the first place. A BK-11 fits in a smaller space and is about 4x as much knife.
Other fixed knives I have with plastic sheaths that do not exibit this behavior incluse: BK-11 becker necker and CRKT bear claw.
In summary, its a good little knife with an oversized sheath that doesn't work in the cold.
