CRKT HISSHOU...Whoa!

I must say you made reading your review enjoyable, you explained what you were doing and why and kept it short but entertaining. Great job....I hope to see you do more of these.

I had a CRKT Hisshou for a while and liked it well enough, it just didnt do anything in particular that I needed over another knife. Not to say it isnt a nice knife for the money it is...but just wasnt going to use it.I gave it to my brother who loves it and he's used it for a whole assortment of things. Guess its a taste matter.

I looked and looked at this blade, finally pulling the trigger about 8 months ago. This is the knife that pretty much started my collection.

I love this blade.

Great review. Interesting looking knife/mini sword. Cant find much info on YK30 other than it's a high carbon steel , I'm sure it's quality stuff !

May it serve you long and well :) I would not want to be on the receiving end of that tip !

I would be interested to know how this one compares to the Cold Steel Tanto 12".

Or this Tactical Wakizashi from Cas Hanwei, soon available for about 90,00 dollars.

SH2432 -- Tactical Wakizashi

The “Sidearm of the Samurai” gets a serious update in our Tactical Wakizashi, designed for strenuous outdoor use and protection.
Based on the blade geometry and superb cutting ability of our Raptor series Wakizashi but with full tang construction for ultimate strength, the Tactical Wakizashi is equal to any required task and then some.
The 5160 high-carbon spring steel blade is plasma coated for corrosion protection and the checkered Kraton handle provides a sure foul-weather grip. The fiberglass scabbard construction avoids water absorption and reduces carrying weight, while several lanyard holes and the included ParaCord provide carrying and backpack attachment options.

Specifications:

Steel: Marquenched 5160 carbon steel
Overall length: 31"
Blade length: 20"
Handle length: 8 1/2"
Weight: 1lb 14 oz.

Specs will vary slightly from piece to piece.

Nice knife/sword and great review. Yet another one on the "want list." However, Father's Day is coming up. Hmmm.

Aloha ALL,

Hey thanks for reading my review and for all the kind feedback.:o

I am not sure how this HISSHOU compares to the likes of the CAS or CS...but I am sure it'd "hold it's own".

God bless you guys and stay safe!

Hey CLB,

Great review, I have to admit I am thinking of selling my Swamprat RMD to fund one of these (have a few other 5" blades I like better).
I have one question: what is the material in front of the cord wrap?
It kind of looks like plastic and that makes me fear the Hissatsu handle, a knife I really wanted until I held it. Also, the Hisshou is not a knife I can hold anywhere, it will be a pay then hold knife and being a student I just want to make sure it is worth it.

Daywalker, You have no idea how much I appreciate your review of the Hisshou. I was hesitant because of the length but had complete faith in James Williams and pretty much anything offered by Bugei Trading. I just saw James' Hisshou cutting video on the CRKT web site and was pretty much convinced but your review took me over the edge. I have both Hissatsus and like the shobu-zukuri blade design.. different purpose and use from shinogi. Actually, now the intermediate length, 13" blade, between a "knife" and wakizashi, becomes attractive as it holds several advantages... more concealable than the wakizashi, use in tighter spaces.. also a better thruster in tight spaces.. but more slashing and reach than the hissatsu fixed. The Hisshou is also a little more packable strapped outside a backpack or day pack.. less likely than a wakizashi to catch on vines and limbs as you slip through thick brush or barbed wire fence. But your review took my theory into practical experience and I will now commit, though the Hisshous are on backorder all over, as far as I can find, even at CRKT (whose price is a lot higher than Bugei).
Thanks for your time and effort.. helped me a lot..
