CRKT - Homefront (by Ken Onion)

I bought one because I liked the look of the design, and I was intrigued by the concept.

I returned it because the pivot/lock mechanism simply didn't work well:

  • Re-assembling the knife was an exercise in frustration. More often than not, I could not fit the handle together in a way to allow the lever lock to close fully. This meant taking the knife apart, and trying again. I lost patience trying to figure out what I was doing right on those occasions when it went together properly.
  • Adjusting the pivot screw allowed me to reduce blade play to a reasonable level, but at the cost of making deployment via flipper impossible. If I backed the pivot screw off enough to allow the blade to flip open, the blade play was awful.

Thx for the info

At $50 I would be interested but concerned that it would be loose especially at the pivot this design seems to lend itself to blade play fit and finish would need to be perfect

I would go as far as saying $30 for an AUS-8/aluminum taiwan made CRKT. I would expect that price point to be an obstacle for the knife. They could have at least done a CM154, is not a CPM option. The disassembly option makes it worth a little more, but not that much.

The price is the killer for me. I would totally move on this just for the gimmick if it was $50 or under. I can justify the $90 when i can get a Rat model 1 in d2 steel and carbon fiber scales for less money (Once kinfeworks.com gets them back in stock in september). The gimmick is cool but not $90 cool. Just to bad!

I think that, for most of us, this knife is a solution in search of a problem. At its current price, the novelty factor doesn't justify it for me.

Any owner of a homefront want a free sharpening? I wanna check one out, but can't find one locally. Not willing to throw the coin at it.
