CRKT knives

They also had a CRKT Heiho model which really caught my eye. I don't think I have ever seen a knife quite like it.

I carried a CRKT Drifter today hiking. Its taken some time to break in, but its a very capable design.

Picked up an M16 tanto tip last week for $6 at flea market. A couple of swipes on my pass through sharpener and it slices through paper like a gem. Now in my edc rotation.

My CRKT minimalist is a great blade for small tasks. It feels really good in the hand. Sometimes a 4 inch pocket knife is just too much blade for cutting a single piece of tape on a mailed package.

I've thought about ordering more and giving them out as gifts.

CKRT knives are decent. I have owned several CKRT and handled some of the Carson models. My current CKRT is the Ken Onion Eros. Nice features, acuto steel which is a goofy name. It is hard to sharpen though. I have used 200 to 600 grit diamond block sharpener on it and once the edge was off I have been unable to put a hair cutting edge back on it. So I am looking around for some sharpening tips.

I'm glad to hear folks are coming around on CRKT! They are certainly one of the more diverse manufacturers; they aren't afraid to try new designs from up-and-coming Makers--which is great for the industry, imo. I think there's probably a CRKT design out there for everyone on any budget, which is no small feat!

Although I've had several CRKT's over the past few years, only the Ripple frame-lock remains in my personal inventory...

Dont have one, but used several models. I will never buy anything from production of crkt. Beside the cheap steel, they look like Chinese replicas to me but for bigger price...

One of the best EDC I have,I use it every day for over 6 years and have not found a reason to change it yet.CRKT Bluepoint.

I've always liked the M16 design series but really wish they would come out with an option for something better than AUS 4/8 blade steel. If Buck can do an S30v for under $60, and Spyderco can do a G10/S30V manix 2 for under $85 I'd gladly pay in that range for a couple CRKT M16 series knives with S30V. The M16-04A auto now comes with 154cm so perhaps we'll see some more options down the road.

I had a Lake 111 and still have a Drifter with stainless handle. I like both of them, especially the Drifter.

They are replicas or many are. But CRKT does pay royalties to the makers which is why they prominently use the custom knife maker's name. That increases the price a bit. I have only tried a couple. But what I have tried have been "okay", not great. There is definitely a place for CRKT in the knife industry.

A good sign for those wondering about the designers getting paid would be the use of their name in America for promotion purposes, online vending purposes, and the actual crediting of the designer in writing on most of (all?) of their collaborations. If the designers want to make some more money and AUTHORIZE folks (read: get paid by them) like CRKT and Kershaw to do that, I think that is fine.

As a side note, my first CRKT was a drifter in all stainless. That thing is like a mini tank, and has been used a lot on the job site for all kinds of things you shouldn't use a knife to do. Still locks up tight and is like a solid block of metal in my hand.

CRKT has their crap together for the most part. I EDC an Eat'n Tool and have a couple other products from them. The only knife I own from them is their Pazoda 2, and if it's any indication of the quality levels CRKT is putting out, CRKT is full of win.

I don't like some of their stuff and I think some of what they offer is gimmicky and not all that great (i.e. their LAWKS system), but overall, yeah, you should check them out. I plan to buy more knives from them.

Those royalty payments are quite substantial (like 20K+) if the knives sell. The custom makers can't produce the volume that might be wanted and they certainly won't produce these knives at the prices CRKT charges for them. So, it is a win win for everyone. I bet Bob Dozier does just fine with the inexpensive knife that I believe Kabar produces. Bill Moran estate probably still has a revenue stream with the Spyderco Moran knives.

The Drifter is in my opinion the best small folder under $20. Its insanely sharp and just an awesome little knife. Pick one up! Got mine on Amazon for like $14 shipped.

...He told me that the factory reps and the designers at CRKT (evidently not that big of a company) told him they were interested at providing high quality knives at an affordable price that folks could depend on. Nothing too fancy, and they weren't looking to be the next knife innovators. Just a quality product that had great bang for the buck.

While I agree about not being "wowed", I think they succeeded in their goals.

I agree. I've owned several CRKT's over the years including an M16 and a couple of Carsons and now, a Ken Onion Shenanigan PPS. Regarding the Shenanigan PPS, out of the box it shaved my arm hair. Nice opening (it's a flipper), and absolutely no blade play. Pretty good stuff for a budget/value knife in AUS 8 steel, costing less than $28. A great knife for the price; it's not top of the line...but I don't believe it was ever meant to be.

I sharpened all my friend's crkt and hate how they grind their bevels.

nearly all of em are uneven and has concave bevel. Takes forever to convex but after im done with it they are great performers.

I actually have a Nirk Tighe on the way. Hated that knife the first time I saw it, then did a 360 and fell in love with the innovative design. Can't wait for it to get here.

CRKT has really got their game in order ever since they paired up with Onion. The Ripple is an amazing knife, as is the Shenanigan.
