CRKT Lightfoot M-1

Talk about feeling big in the hand, I decided to try a little light chopping with it today. It worked surprisingly well but it is after all a folder. The more I carry and use this one, the more I like it! Think I'm gonna switch back to tip down carry though. By the way berzerker how is it for lefties? My Dad is left handed and is intrigued.

Hi Yobbos1:

They certainly are rugged, but with excellent edge geometry; I've used mine to de-spine books to make "tear sheets," and destroy confidential CDs. This last is an interesting test of point geometry.

Speaking as a lefty, this knife fits my needs very well. I modified it, but I tend to tinker with my stuff--it would be fine in stock form carried tip up.

The handle is, as advertised, asymmetrical, but this does not get in the way for me.

Overall, this would be a fine present.

Best regards.

Mine did arrive a few days ago.

Good:

1. Fits the hand very well. The flipper does a good job when opened.
2. Blade shape looks solid/ tip strength. Great idea of a modified tanto. Instead of a second tip, there is a belly. That is a step further.
3. The tang has a ramp to stop the liner from moving to the other side.
4. No blade play.
5. Removable clips for lefties and righties.
6. Everything is black.
7. AUS8 steel
8. Driver for torxscrews
9. Price

Bad:

1. Blade was badly centered, but didn´t touch the liner.
2. Hard to open in one single movement. The stud has no enuogh grip to use it alone, to use the flipper means to grip over in a second movement. Flicking might be an alternative for those who like it.
3. Uncomfortable to close. The liner might get some notches like the BM liners on the Mini AFCK. I doubt usage with gloves.
4. Edge angles vary. One side is around 15°, the other around 5°. Looks like a modified chisel grind.
5. There could be a hole for a rope.

The bads are things, that should get better over time or by a little help ("customising"). So considering the price, a good thing.

I've almost decided to buy one of these, but I have a couple of questions for those who have them already, or who have examined one:

1. What do they mean by "assymetric, open interframe design"?

2. How does the LAWS system work, does it get in the way at all and can it be removed if I prefer? (obviously voiding the warranty)

At $50 a pop I know I'm nitpicking, but thanks anyway.

Dom

Your first question: No idea.
Your second: i guess not.

Hope, this helps.

Hello Little Claw:

I hope this will help:

1) The asymmetry is in the finger cut-outs; tney're slightly offset from one another. Although you'd think it would be awkward for either right or left hand grip, it doesn't seem to be. As for open design; the spacers are posts (DEVO hats, I've heard them called).

2) Yes, you can remove the LAWKS system--you'll need an equal thickness washer in its place. However, why would you want to? It really does prevent the liner lock from slipping. You could leave the LAWKS in place and never use it.

Best regards.

Thanks.

Given the Lightfoot design, decent materials and reported ruggedness at this price point I had pretty much decided to go for it, anyway.

The question about the handle was mostly curiosity, and my only reservation was the LAWKS system. It looks to me like it might get in the way a bit, I've never handled a knife with one and since I've never had a problem with a liner lock (and by all reports this one's a good one) I thought it might be overkill. Wanted to know if there was the option to customise in this way. THanks for taking the time to think it through

My curiosity is getting the better of me, so I am ordering one as soon as my pay clears...
