CRKT M-16 14 CF - Would you pay $130?

You can get a Rekat Sifu D2 carbon fiber handle with rolling lock for less than $130.00. A whole lot more knife than a CRKT M-16 14 CF.

I think many people on this board have the Rekat Sifu and will say it is better than the CRKT M-16 14 CF.

CRKT has effectivly carved a niche in the knife market. They helped to re-defined the concept of 'quality for low cost'. What maker do knife knuts reccommend when asked, "Which brand makes a good, yet inexpensive knife?"

This is how CRKT is indentified in the market.

The higher end of the production knife market belongs to knife fanatics. We'll spend more money on that special, ultracool blade. Since our knowledge and tastes are keener, our expectations run higher than the casual knife buyer. We all have a price/expectation litmus test. The top selling production knives tend to pass our collective acceptance tests.

If price and or expectations fall into inbalance, the knife will not sell.

With the M-16 14 CF and Viele Wasps, CRKT is reaching into a very competitive market share. Their key advantage of low cost, is nullified with these models.-- Bring your best features if your going to please us knife knuts.

And, it will be that market that will pass judgement on their products and expansion.

I'm with rogue_spear on this one. I have a D2 Sifu and I can only assume it is 10 times the knife for the money. I have never handled the knife in question, but the Sifu is a great buy around the same price. I don't think I would ever pay that much for a crkt.

If you can have almost identical knife in same size, same weight to pay more than
twise only for CF+AUS118 instead Al+AUS8 ? I am not sure.

No way! Could get a nice Spyderco for that much!

Seth,

As I predicted 6-8 months ago, CRKT is pushing at the upper limits of their price range, trying to break out. Wouldn't you rather be in the BM price range? They have the quality (so far) and if they can come up with something that gets popular, the more power to them!

Pesonally, I think this knife is a year too late...but time will tell.

Don't jsut compare steel vs. steel, handle vs. handle, etc. The M-16 is a CARSON designed product, and that may mean something to you. Also, it has the flipper, which other knives do not. Also, the M-16 is the ONLY knife that is the M16!! I bought a Benchmade Sentinel a year and some time ago for EDC. Not the best blade grind for that, but I loved the blue/black annodizing, I love the blade shape, and the fact that it was an Elishewitz design was nice too. What YOU like is as important as steel vs. steel.

Another example is me and back packs. My sister and her boyfriend just picked up some Arc'Teryx pacs for a great price. I'd rather save and get a pack from Eagle or Berghaus: a nice military pack. I like that style, so that is as important to me as which pack has pockets where and such.
