I recently bought a CRKT M-1602Z, with
the Carson Flipper design. I find the
knife very hard to open fast.
The flipper gets in contact with my index
finger when I open it by the thumb stud.

What's your experience with the knife?
Otherwise, it is of good quality.

Practice is the key. Just play with it for a couple hours and you'll get the hang of it. Trust me. Some people actually use the flipper to help them open the knife. I believe it can be used to open the blade partially and then finished by a slight wrist snap. Don't overdo the wrist snap. Hard flicking wears out a knife.

If you want to find out more about the M16 series, you could probably search for a review on this forum (review forum).

Have fun!

Put your index on the flipper and push, while fliipping lightly your wrist....Easy, don't you think?

Thomas,

Welcome to the Forum. I have the M16-04 which I used to open using the "flipper' and a wrist flick. Now, I can hold my wrist rigid and give a sharp push with my index finger and it opens like a switchblade. No wrist motion needed. I've had the knife for a few months and it didn't take long to get it to this level of smoothness. Maybe I just have a strong index finger.

I recently acquired a M16-03Z (sweet) and it didn't take long to get the hang of opening it using the flipper and a flick of the wrist. Takes a little practice.

i have an m16-14 and really like it. i never use the thumb stud, the flipper is just way more conveniant, though it may work better on the larger and heavier blade. with the TINIEST flick of the wrist, it opens and locks smoothly. in my opinion, its a great knife.
