Hi everyone. I'm a big fan of these knives, I have two- a o3z and a 13z. I'm a bit confused about the numbering system that CRKT uses on these knives. I want to buy an M-16 with a short spear blade, with no serrations, and with the flipper. Handle material is not a big issue. Anyone know what number I'm looking for?
John.

You are lookig for an M16-12

I'm getting an M16-14 for the full sized blade and according to the dealers pages, "12" is the smallest size. Hope that helps :)

Yeah, I have the full size M-16-04. Great knife for $50. Fun to play with. I'm not sure, however, what the numbers actually mean in their cataloging system.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum, I want to say that the CRKT M16 is a good knife with an above average steel. I, like many knife nuts have an averse reaction to Taiwanese made knives but boy was I surprised.

I recently skinned and deboned a red deer with it, my hunting guide laughed at the folder when he first saw it. I lent it to him and he was impressed with the edge holding at the end of it. In fact, he whacked the femur with it and the edge held up although it did develop some micro chipping but it was still shaving sharp. I cringed when I saw him do it but then again this knife was a user and I bought it for the fun factor not expecting it to perform that well. For the cost, I wouldn't be upset if I lost it too.

The handle is quite comfortable too, it didn't become slippery from all the blood and the lock held up through the chopping and didn't disengage.

Obviously, there are better blades out there that are better for the job but I wanted to see how well the tanto shape blade can do certain jobs. While it is not the best and it is easy to make a miscut, it is adequate.

I think it goes to show how much Taiwanese manufacturers have improved. I will buy more CRKT knives but I wouldn't stop buying customs either.

M16-12 is wrong (because: Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated Cutting Edge as well as tanto-style blade), the only M16 short spear-point blade models (carbon fibre series) are in production without the “Carson Flipper” feature!

Hi JohnF

there is no Spear-point with a flipper shorter than your 03/13

You have to look for the last two numbers, (after " M16- " )

the first number always says:
0 = no sarrations
1 = serrated

the second stands for bladelength:
0 = 2,62" .....CF/Tanto only NO flipper
1 = 3,12" .....CF/Spear point only NO flipper
2 = 3,13" .....Tanto only
3 = 3,56" .....Spear point only
4 = 3,88" .....Tanto only
4 = 3,94" .....CF/Tanto only WITH flipper (they should have called this a 5!)

then there may be a
F = carbon fibre
Z = zytel

you find them all here:

Easy but confusing :confused:

I would like to have a 04 Spear-point / CF / with flipper, but :(

:) look for the tuned 03Z in my signature :)

@blizzard: Hi, welcome :D

Actually, what you are looking for is the M16-03Z which is the plain edged, spear-point, Zytel version. It does have the Carson flipper. I know since I have the partially serrated version M16-13Z. :D

Hi everyone, and thank's for all the useful information. It looks like I already have the smallest spear point, the 03z, and if I want anything smaller I'll either have to get a tanto or wait for CRKT to introduce a new style. The Carson flipper strikes me as the best thing since sliced bread, or at least since the death of George Schrade! I think that Carson, even if he didn't invent the concept, has done a lot to perfect and popularize it. It's truly the fastest way to open a blade that I've seen!
My EDC is now a BM705. I like tha axis lock and the small size of the handle for pocket carry. But I would certainly use an M-16 if it was a little more pocket friendly.
By the way, I always think of the company name a Cricket. Does anyone else do this?
Blizzard, welcome to the forums!

Yep, I've always done that. I hope there's not a company that is called Cricket, 'cause that could be confusing. :)
