CRKT M16 - just bought one, checked it out, and returned it

imho the best version of the '16 from CRKT is the ti version, has better steel in the blade too.

the cheaper ones i have seen have been "ok" but arent anything to write home to mom about.

I think someone mentioned the problems with plastic-handled versions. I've had the M16-14T (titanium combo) for several months and couldn't be more pleased. Lockup is very tight and there is no play.

my experience with crkt has been very good and all have had good fit and finish on purchase. You might want to give the storm 2 a try at wally world for $30 it's a bargain. the aus 4 knives that i've had weren't as bad as i expected, they dull faster but come up sharp with relative ease. still wish they made them in aus 8 like the model 21.

I like the style of many CRKT knives, but I think their steels aren't up to snuff. Still, I have two of their titanium knives and think they're very well made. Haven't used either, but I'm hoping more attention was made to the steel.

I bought a titanium handle one years ago. It fell apart after a month or 2 of use. I think they are cheap junk!! Look cool though. Would never buy a CRKT product again.

thats certainly not been my experience with the ti M16, how did it "fall apart"?

i'm no big fan of CRKT by any means but i'll give credit were credit is due.

I am broke as a joke right now, but I would like to check out a non AO plain edge M4. I've seen the AO version with Veff serrations, not me at all, but side by side with a standard custom Carson M4, it looks like CRKT has done a good job.

I have had 2 CRKT m16 EDC's and loved them both. They were both plastic, but were still great knives. I love the flipper, opens very quickly. Liner lock stays tight especially since the EDC has an extra safety.

yup, i have an M16-13T combo with the auto-lawks, and it was rock solid, and i don't care much for CRKT, i got it as a gift.

I like some of CRKT's designs, but their steel sucks. I have an M16-01Z, with an AUS-4 blade. The open back allowed keys, coins, etc to intrude and knock the edge off the blade. 'Course it sharpened up real easily, but 5 minutes in my pocket and it was dull again. And you couldn't cut anything that wouldn't dull the edge. It's in the box with all my other non-users.

I loved my little M16 with al handles and an AUS8 blade. It's really a pretty great deal at about 30 dollars. I used it until I had basically butchered it, and then a friend lost it anyway, but for those few years it was really terrific.

It was thin, light, had a good flipper and a good action with a very tough liner lock (despite its thinness). That said, the liner lock wore too fast and I really didn't like the chisel grind much. I did, however, love the black coating on that particular one, I can't remember the kind, but it wasn't like thick matte black stuff that scratches off, it was much higher quality than is on my Benchmades and Kershaws.

If I were to do it again, I'd get an M21, but as good as these little knives are, they're only realistically competitors when you are willing to spend more money. Unlike say, the Delica or Minigrip, there isn't an obviously good argument to keep an M16 when you don't mind spending 100+ on a nicer Spyderco/BM/Kershaw.

I bought a m16-13sf with a byrd cara cara, medowlark, m16 edc, cold steel kudu(mismarked colo steel :p), gerber gator fixed blade, walther fixed blade, and fire kit for a grand total of $6 last week.

Its is the ultimate mall ninja knife but it has a good lock up and no play even though it had been used alittle.
It has a aus8 steel blade and al handles, not bad for 75 cents.

ive had my m16-13sf for about 6 months now, its a great knife. ive had no problems with it whatsoever. i think i actually might have loosened it when i bought it.

I've heard that the CRKT's from Walmart are lower in quality, maybe its so they can sell them for so cheap.

I bought a titanium M16 and took one of my liners in my old M16 (the yellow zytel version) and fixed it to my Titanium one. I changed the screws and the spacers to suit the increased thickness.

I also decided to hammer the lockbar (since it is shaped like an '0') and this results in the lengthening of the lockbar. No more bladeplay.

Result is it is now my EDC and with a solid lockup (lockbar mod) and I use it to pry sometimes without the scales flexing (the additional liner solved that).

Basically I like it a lot but sometimes you get lemons but in my case I use the lemon (Yellow zytel M16 with bladeplay and horrible flex) to make a good cup of lemon juice (My super Ti M16 with double liners and very tight liner lock)!

PS : I'm of the opinion that even with the bad samples it is very unlikely for a CRKT M16 or M21 to 'fall apart'. It is actually quite tough. Though I would prefer CRKT to increase the lockbar thickness.
