Crkt M16-sf

Pathfinder,

While I do not own one of these, I think the "hilt" design is not something I would like. It hinders placing the thumb on the spine of the blade. I've handeled a couple of M16-03, all in all I was not that impressed. Especially with the liner lock fit. Overall I think CRKT is a good company though, and I love my BladeLOCK I have.

I agree with Dan about the hilt. If you already have an M16, then let this urge subside. I think it looks kind of goofy. I suggest the CRKT Lightfoot M1. I just recieved mine yesterday and I have a hard time putting it down. The modified Tanto blade, aside from being beautifully designed (it's slightly different than the custom M1), is AUS 8 stainless steel with black titanium nitride non-reflective coating, and in my opinion is very versatile. It is an excellent cutter with a strong point. The handle is what I really dig. Although it is a thick carry @ 15mm (9/16"), it feels so natural in the hand. It has its version of the Carson Flipper (Mako flipper)that when open, is continuous with the finger choil to form a guard. it has two clips for right or left hand, tip up or down carry (tip down feels a bit rough on the pocket).
As for CRKT, I think you get a lot of bang for the buck. I'm surprised that CRKTs do not get that much "airtime" on this forum.
BTW the M1 cost me $42 plus shipping at knifeworks.com and personally I think I got a better knife.

Personally, I think it is the worst model in he wonderful line of CRKT M16 folders.

Phil Elmore reviewed it here.

That's one of the ugliest knves I've seen for a long time. Get a LCC D/A in black blade with micarta scales and be done with it.

I think you are missing the point of that "hilt" which is not a hilt at all but a "flipper" - the blade on that M-16 will deploy as fast or faster than the Kersaw "onions" - with a bit of practice snap your wrist as you rotate that "hilt" and you'll see what happens My only fault with the whole m-16 series is the checkered thumb studs which raise cain with pockets. I have an M-16 o3Z and the M-16 -ooF?(carbon fiber) and love them both - they also hold an edge for me quite well.

It's a tac folder that opens via thumbstud or opens as an auto by tilting a hidden release that is the bolster.
