For my first post on this or any other knife forum, I'm requesting any possible info on the M16 Special Forces knife form Columbia River Knife and Tool. I'm looking to make this my first non Swiss Army Knife and I'm very taken with the overall look of the knife. However I have some concerns about how practical a tanto blade is. Can it thrust and pierce, and what about sharpening. Any info would be greatly appreciated. This community is brilliant, and has already provided me with a wealth of useful information. Thanks a lot.:)

Welcome to the Blade Forums!!!!

My Cousin Dave has a M16 spearpoint...i think it is the law-enforcement version. I like it a lot. While he was staying at my place with another of his LEO buddies I had a chace to tune up all of thier knives and I got a wicked edge on that M-16. I also had no problem loosening the pivot to make it smoother, the blade did not wobble when locked. I like the Carson flipper design quite a bit.....mmmmMMMm...flippers!

Some say tantos ain't much for utility, but I find they work great. I have a customized SOG Vision that I probably souldn't use too often, but it is too beautious not to. Tantos have great penetration for starting cuts and can be used in a pencil-type grip to make precise cuts. They are harder to sharpen because of thier 2 distinct edges (talking about the americaized tanto of the M-16). I find the act of sharpening challenging and fun so i dont mind the extra care in sharpening the main edge and then the tip edge.

Enjoy your knife!!
You got a good one, I think.

Keep reading here and get addicted like us to that quality steel.....that M16 is the tip of the iceberg.
