crkt m16

I like mine. It's the zytel spearpoint one, Aus-6m steel. It makes a decent beater knife. No blade play so far, locks up nicely, my only complaint is it doesn't seem to hold an edge as well as I would like. I suspect that the Aus-8 ones would hold an edge a little better, but I like the zytel handle better (nicer in the cold weather).

I think that on most of CRK&T's products, based on comments I have heard and on looking at them in stores, quality is hit or miss. Some companies make top notch all the time, CRK&T seems to be a bit more spotty.

I've never seen the Cold Steel, so no comment.

I have M16-03Z, M16-12Z and the M16-14Z. I've had no problems with any of them except the 12Z. It took a while to get the lock broken in so that it would disengage <sp?. All 3 work well for me. But of the 3 the 12Z is my least favorite. It just doesn't feel right in my hand. I have my 14Z in my pocket right now.

I had a M16 spear point with the AUS 8 blade and it served me just fine as an EDC. Took a razor edge and was easy to sharpen, edge holding was pretty good. Fit and finnish were fine, the blade does stain though and as others have mentioned the liner lock can be a pain to disengage. However, it's a good knife for the price and the friend I eventually gave the knife to loves it. I haven't bought any of Cold Steel's folders recently since they all seem to be moving towards that 420 SS blades. 420HC with a good heat treat is one thing but the stuff they're using doesn't hold and edge long enough for me. I also haven't bought any CRKT knives with the AUS 6 blades, nothing against them but I like my knife steels a little harder. That's probably why I'm carrying more Spyderco knives now, better blade steel. JMO.

I should be taking receipt of an M21-14 this week from knifesite.com. It is basically a large M16 but with a spearpoint blade rather than a tanto -- and in AUS8 steel rather than AUS6. It was only $51 from said company.
