Crkt minimilist

Ill take a look at the crkt spew and see what i think of that and might come back for opinions. Thank you for all this help.

I loved the blade shape of the SPEW. I used it for random small knife stuff for about a month, but ended up texturing the handle, engraving it and giving it to an ahem...lady friend. Sheath was pretty good as well. Excellent knife for the price, fit and finish was very good.

I've owned two minimalists, the Bowie and the Keramin (again, embellished and given as gifts after a period of use) and have not a single complaint, especially at that price point.

Paid $20 for the wharnie at the local Big box home improvement store a few years ago. Quite impressed with the little guy - lives in my shed over my work bench.

What do you all think of this for a in the citie edc

Buy it. I hate to admit but I do not like CRKT at all. I bought the minimalist Bowie and it KICKS ASS! I used it to open tuna cans on a regular basis at a time. I do not feel bad about abusing it. It’s light and the little clip point is awesome. I had it on my keys. Wore it on my neck. It’s just a great little knife. If you buy it and don’t like it throw it in a tackle box or in your cars glovebox. I love it.

It's worth the price but I've had a few issues with said knife. I initially bought a Bowie version and liked it. It feels like it's perfectly designed for the human hand. 5CR13MOV leaves alot to be desired but it works. One of the scales on the Bowie broke in half after minimal use. I emailed CRKT and recieved no response. A few months later in YouTube comments (a public forum) I mentioned my frustration and I was given a specific email address and they responded finally. I feel that because it was on a public video during shot show that will have many views they agreed to help. I requested the new (at the time) drop point and they over nighted it.
With both knives they carry easily, barley leave a print when under the shirt, and you forget they are there. However I've jumped 2 feet off a ladder or a bucket and the knife pops out of the sheath and hit the concrete. Minimal inertial force can cause the knife to fall out of the sheath.

I picked up the wharnie minimalist on clearance at wal-mart and absolutely love the design. I don't wear or carry it, but it's my "living room" knife. Great for opening packages and breaking down boxes for recycling. Ergos are outstanding. Blade steel, yeah, leaves alot to be desired but I keep a sharpmaker set up with ultra fine stones and it brings the edge back to life with minimal effort.

Would love to see a little M4 version, but yeah, CRKT and all...

I liked the ark alot. H1 steel doesn’t have the best edge retention but it will never rust. Spyderco developed athe knife to he worn around the neck at all times, even when showering so women service members would have protection at all times. Hence the name ARK = always ready knife. Spydercos are considered an upgrade from crkt.

Crkt minimalist is a great knife though just make sure you get one in good condition.

Being one of the designers, of course I like the ARK a lot...but the Minimalist Wharncliffe is actually my 2nd favorite neck knife. The one big advantage the Minimalist has over the ARK is that all the newer Minimalists have a sheath that is easily convertible for belt carry. I didn't remember to ask Spyderco to make the spacing on the ARK sheath compatible with the Spyderco G Clip until too late. :(

One thing that bears saying, is that serrated H1 retains sharpness better than almost anything else, unlike PE H1. All of the ARKs that I get to pass on to friends and fellow Soldiers now are serrated.

Yes serrated H1 apparently gets work hardened from the process that cuts the serrations. This results in unusually high hardness ratings for h1 knives at the serrations. I usually don’t prefer serrations myself but with h1 it is hard to deny the benefit that h1 gets over plain edge.

The sheath to the ARK is definitely one of my biggest gripes over the knife. It is first of all way bigger than it needs to be with that very square design. There is alot of unused excess material on the sheath.

One could easily attatch the ARK sheath to the belt for inside or outside waistband carry using a rubber pull the dot style loop. Also a static cord is another good option. For these style neck knives I usually use a length of beaded chain. That way I can wear them as a neck knife when I feel like it. At the same time I can attatch that chain to a belt loop and it acts like a static cord. This way I can easily switch from neck to inside waistband carry whenever I like.

The reason the ARK sheath is so square, is so it will maintain orientation on the wearer's chest. It still weighs almost nothing~ the whole package including knife weighs 2 oz! It's easy to make an expedient belt sheath for the ARK with paracord or zip ties, it just doesn't look as elegant. But some zip ties will quickly attach the ARK sheath to webbing, MOLLE straps, LBG, a belt, you name it. If that's where you plan on carrying it, the sheath can just stay there, and you trim the excess tongue off the zip ties. When you're ready to move or remove the ARK, just cut the zip ties.
