CRKT: Opening The Floodgates...

Crkt's has some pretty intresting desgins coming out. I can't wait for the Corkum tanto myself.

Congrats on getting over AUS-6-phobia!
CRKT makes great knives at a very nice price.
The steel is fine--folks used Buck 110s for years and never felt that it had crappy steel. Now they have to have VG-10...

BTW, has anyone actually seen and handled the CRKT D.O.G.?
It looks awesome on-line.

Good luck,
Allen.

What is this Corkum Tanto? is it a fixed blade? I don't see it on their site.
Yes the DOG does look very nice, but I have not held one - says its supposed to feel like a pistol grip/quality handgun.:)

thanks for the link. Wow, I like how simple and smooth it is. Is the CRKT version going to have the cord wrapped handle? I like it. I'll have to keep this knife in mind.:)

It will have the cord wrap as well. I don't have a picture on hand with me to compare the two but it is quite similair. It will be in aus 6 m naturally.

www.crkt.com is the web site catalog and if you want a paper catalog to check out in the john, email them through the "info" link at the bottom of the first page.

i am waiting for a friend to bring back a CRKT Point Guard .. but wondering how the clip is attached, is it high enough for discreet carry? i remember seeing the left side of the knife at AG Russell site, but now can't be found .. any one can help? picture maybe?

I've got the picture of a point guard next to me, but I have no scanner. The picture doesn't show the clip either. It just shows the LAWKS. The clip doesn't very low on the knife- like about a half inch will stick up.:)

I've got an M-18 and love the knife. It actually renewed my interest in folders. I was on a straight fixed-blade kick and I got my hands on the M-18, and have been buying some folders again. I've also got a Plan B, which is also a great blade -- love the design. Here's a picture of the CRKT First Strike that I got from www.moteng.com --

Yes it does help ... thanks ...

now i got it in hand ... and the clip is as high as it goes, with one but: it is not bent (like the pics from AGRUSSELL) but more radiused from the screw up and then down again (smooth curves) ..

this is my short review

I just got a CRKT First Strike and it's AWESOME!!! I just love the thickness of the blade and the cord wrapped handle. I really wouldn't mind seeing more Corkum designs from CRKT.

Somebody asked about the DOG folder - I did check one out but it's very thick and the little knives take some pressure to come off. I don't fancy this one myself.

Now we just have to wait for the Bud Nealy model that's coming.

BTW, the First Strike was my 10th CRKT. The AUS6 is a bit soft but I've had good use out of them.

To the originator of this discussion, check out the M16 LE series as this is also one of my favourites.

I own quite a few CRKT's and know that there are more in my future. Is it the best available, no; but for the money you can't beat it (imo). They have some excellent designs and yesterday I saw some prototypes that will be coming out soon (very soon I hope) and they are already on my list.
Welcome to the CRKT club. They are addicting!:D :D :D

CRKT knives are generally under-rated by lots of people. People are inclined to believe that since they are priced lower than expected, they can't be that good.

Personally, I like CRKT knives. A lot of the knives are value for money.

I have a CRKT Contrail...the blade steel is called Z60DCV14, whatever that is. Anyway, though you would not likely ever confuse it with 420V, it's done a pretty fair job for me...and CRKT does have some great designs!

I personally don't have much problem with cheaper blade steels, I pretty much just use my knives for EDC in a big city environment so technically blade steel doesn't matter too much. The only thing that keeps me from buying CRKT is their handle material and fit and finish, their designs are excellent but the handle material and fit and finish of the knife itself usually isn't up to par with what I prefer. Another thing that prevents me from buying CRKT is that I won't ever carry it. If you already have benchmades, MTs, CRKs I don't see why you would rather carry the crkt over the others.
