What knife would you buy for edc and sd for the same price. the crkt with the dual flippers.http://www.knivesplus.com/crkt-knife-m16-cr-m1614zsf.html. I tried it in the gun shop and it's really hefty. but aus4:confused: But it's big and seems solid, and it works like an emerson wave cuz of the flippers.if I got it I'd probably take my dremel and cut the one flipper of and make the ''wave''flipper alittle smaller.or a spyderco ss endura in aus6.the store is selling them for the same price. maybe I'll just end up getting both of them but if I have to choose. for SD/EDC.

I know pleople on here don't think extremely highly of crkt from what I've read so far,and I know there are alot of spyderco nuts here too(of wich I'm becoming)but for the same price and mainly for SD.I've carried lot of different blades and read lots of books and vids and about a year ago I found a school that teaches filipino bladecraft and I've been training in krav maga also wich has lots of blade work both offense and defense. so I'm not some ''mall ninja'' as I've seen written on here. I'm just courious as to what knife any of you would choose from a quality stand point. materials and toughness ect.... any input is much appreciated. thanks in advance.

How much are they selling the Endura for? If it's over about $40 order a waved Endura from New Graham for $48 - end of story.

IMO the waved Endura and Delica are the best knife values around. And VG10 is far superior to Aus4 or Aus6.

CRKT makes a decent product, it's not great like spyderco. I also don't like the way CRKT knives look. Spyderco makes a great consistent product that will serve you for years.

Check out the sale knife they have at www.knifecenter.com Its an M-16 with dual flippers aluminum handles and I think aus8 steel.( correction it states 420c steel) All for 39.99 or so.

I don't like CRK&T, and do love Spyderco, I would say get the Spyderco.

I have one of the dual flipper CRKTs, and let me tell you, I'd take an endura over it any day. I carried it in my pocket one hot day, and had to dismantle the knife to remove surface rust that night. I couldn't frickin believe it. I've never had a problem with any spyderco I've had, and as others have said, the waved delica/endura can be found for a VERY reasonable price. That way, no dremmel necessary!

Spyderco without question , better design , better steel better ergos - just better all round .

Chris

In almost every case I prefer Spyderco over CRKT....however, in this case I'm not so sure.

In my opinion, the SS Endura with AUS-6 blade-steel is not that great.
I owned one and EDC'd it for a while but I never really liked it that much.
It is heavy and slick and when I gripped it very hard the lock would disengage just enough to allow the blade to rattle when I shook it (this was a pre-Boye dent SS Endura).
I put skateboard tape on the side and that solved the "slippery issue", but i still did not like it that much.
I think the new Endura 4 (FRN with dual SS liners) is the best choice for the money if you really want a Spyderco.

Having said that, I still cannot recommend the CRKT knife you linked because I have never used that knife.
But I have used the CRKT M16 without dual flippers, and I have used the M18, and the M21-04 as well.
All are good knives designed by Kit Carson and are plenty tough.

My advice is to get your hands on both knives if possible and see which one suits you best.

Good luck,
Allen.

I just can't get myself to recommend that CRKT. It might be fine for self-defense, but I don't see it as being very good for utility work. Then again, stainless steel Spydies are far too slippery for self-defense. You're screwed either way you look at it, if those two knives are all you have to choose from.

I'd give Allen's modification a try, and add some skateboard tape to the Spydie.

CRKT's M16 and M21 series with AUS 8 steel is a great line. CRKT has some other good pieces, and for a beater, AUS6 really wouldn't hurt ya if ya got a good deal on it. But I would go with the Spyderco. Even though its AUS6, its a Spyderco. If you can get the VG10 FRN Spydercos, go for that one though.

I have to agree with Allen, you really need to try both...

Also a lot depends on what you want the knife for.

For my personal use the Spydies in 40 - 50$ range are perfect, my Native gets much more use than my M16.

My M16-14M is the full sized aluminum version with the tanto blade and it is more of a folding pry-bar. I have no complaints regarding quality or serviceability.

I will also add that I won't buy a CRKT product unless it's pretty well discounted.

I've been eyeballing the Chinook II lately , but that's definitely in a different class than the M16 and if I do buy it would be my 1st higher end Spydie.

If it's an AUS8 CRKT, I'd probably choose it. Spyderco makes amazing knives, and in general, quite superior to the overall CRKT lineup. But the M16 line is a real performer. I've EDCed mine frequently for quite awhile now.

That said, I've never been particularly impressed with the Endura or Delica. They're fine knives, to be sure, and will serve you well. But the design is boring at best. There are a lot of good Spydercos at about the same price as those two super popular models. You could even get an S30V native for 40 dollars locally. I like the SS models significantly less. They're too smooth/slippery for me, they feel heavy and clunky too. Plus a steel downgrade...

The SS models, in my mind, are intended for customization. I'm not sure spyderco would agree with that, but the only reason I'd buy one of their SS models is if I wanted it engraved.

As other posters have said, I'd recommend the FRN Spydercos with VG-10 over the CRKT you mentioned; I like them better than the AUS 8 M16 as well.

AUS 8 takes a great edge, but so does VG-10 and VG-10 holds the edge longer.
The Spyderco FRN handles with inset steel liners are comparable in toughness to the M16's aluminum handles. And I feel more comfortable with the Spyderco lockback than the M16 liner lock.

So I'd bag the AUS 4 and AUS 6 CRKTs, and go with one of the new Generation 4 Spyderco Enduras or Delicas.

However, if you really, really want a flipper and liner lock, the CRKT is not a bad choice - in AUS 8 only. AUS 6 does not hold an edge well at all, and does not take an edge to compare in sharpness to AUS 8.

P.S. I bought my first M16 about 7 years ago and still have it. Have bought and handled many, many CRKTs since then - and Spydercos. Every CRKT I've bought in AUS 6M has ultimately disappointed me as to its edge holding ability. (Fit and finish on the CRKT knives is always excellent BTW, I've really got to hand it to them on that.)

Their AUS 8 knives that I've bought at great prices I consider reasonable value. But again, the AUS 8 doesn't compare to the VG-10.

There are a few CRKT knives that I like, but most of their knives I don't feel are worth the cash. Just about all of the Spyderco knives are great knives, especially for the money.

I will admit I do like the L.A.W.K.S. system on my CRKT M16-Z, but if I was going to carry a liner lock knife, I'd go with my Spyderco Military anyday. That liner is utterly solid, even without the ingenious L.A.W.K.S. thingie.

well I allready got the spyderco. it was at this gunshop here in town where I live, and they where both 39 bucks. It was the old aus6 spoyerdo endura ss. I liked the crkt cuz it was bigger and could ''wave'' cuz of the flipper. I just put some skateboard grip tape on the spyderco, and used a zip tie for a ''wave. I accually am in love with the spyderco:D I can't explain it. it wasn't expensive(39) but I love how the blade catches the light, And the serations look mean. It's my first spyderco.I think I'm gonna get the police model. it's alittle bigger and has the little false edge. and VG-10:) But really, I am developing feeling for this knife. it's like, sexy? or something.:o

I wouls choose the Spyderco every time. I have owned one CRKT and it was okay. I have owned or do own half a dozen Spydercos, and they have all been excellent knives.
