I have recently bought the Pazoda as my EDC for in the office.. it has a very low pocket profile and very sleek looking... but personally, I wouldn't pick it as my outdoor or first knife...
I have had a large number of knives down through the years (I am in scouts 22years this year)... and my personal favourite when camping/hiking is the Swiss Army Knife (SAK)/Victorinox Mariner/Helmsman... It has a serated main blade (for rope cutting) and has the loop (Marlin Spike) for knot tying/untying and working with paracord I find it great also...
I recently bought my wife the Wenger 55 which is a perfect scouting knife... has a brilliant main blade and saw... everything needed for the outdoors... I would highly recommend it as a first outdoor knife if it is for scouting or similar purposes...
