CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion Fixed Blade???

too darned bad imho, the companion was awfully close to my custom polkaswki companion (in dimensions not steel) and with a decent custom sheath made a heckuva FB EDC for SD imho, all for less than $50, i used to pack mine all the time, even smoothed out the handles on it some, a great knife for the $$ imho. i never could figure why the included two crummy useless sheaths vs one decent one lol, go figure??

Hmmmm...I didn't know that it had been discontinued. It's a decen't knife for the money, but I'm saving for the custom.

Is the CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion similar in size to the CRKT Crawford/Kasper folder? The design looks similar.

Does Eric at onsenetactical still make custom sheathes for the companion?

I have both knives but I'm selling the Polkowski. I does not feel nearly as good in the hand and I feel like it forces my grip forward too far. Hard to explain. You'd have to them out to really know what I mean. To me, the folder is far superior to the fixed blade.

I recall them being discontinued about a year, year and a half ago. There were a ton of them available for about 25 bucks on the bay and all over. BTW, always wondered why they didn't put a lanyard hole in the handle on that one.

i always wondered that myself, no lanyard hole??

bladeprince i dont understand what ya are saying, my companions grip profile is almost exactly the same as my custom kasper folder, and i think the custom kasper folder and the CRKT version are very similar also, i dont see how ya could like the grip on 1/dislike the other??

eric at onscene is were i got my custom sheath but its been a few yrs ago.

like i said a great SD knife for the $$ if ya throw in a decent sheath, hard to beat for $50 or so imho.

SIFU1A, check out the pictures and it will be obvious. The grip positions are not the same at all. As I said, I feel my hand is too far forward with the fixed blade. I feel like I'm almost holding on to part of the blade.

oh i see thought ya meant how the handle is shaped, thats just the way they are as far as the position of the hand and the blade, like i said the custom polkawski and the CRKT are pretty close, anyway what ya are talking of doesnt bother me/different strokes i guess.

I had one of the fixed blades for a while. I like the knife, but found I didn't ever carry it, probably because the sheath. I sold it for a small profit at a Flea Market.

A few of my thoughts on the Companion and KFF.

My custom Companion was developed and produced before the KFF.

The KFF was later designed by Bob Kasper to be a Companion that folded. I declined to make the KFF and personally introduced Bob Kasper to Pat Crawford. (boy, I screwed up big time)

The CRKT version of the Companion is smaller than my custom. Neither Bob K. nor I was given a chance to review the CRKT sheath system. As a result....it sucked.

In my opinion, the blade tip of the KFF should be lowered a bit so the blade/handle geometry is not so straight. I would have made it that way and believe it would have made a great knife better.

The so called handle heavy Companion is in the eyes of the beholder.

The progression of the collaborations between Bob K. and me are:

1. Bulldog fighter
2. Pug fighter
3. Companion fighter
4. Scorpion fighter
5. Gaunt neck knife (the only necker authorized by Bob K.)
6. Perfigo fixed blade.

All of my collaborations with Bob K. feature handles with a forefinger groove and a pinky hook.

This handle design was taken from a knife I made before the collaborations with Bob...the "Vogel Fighter". The "Vogel Fighter" handle design was married with a blade design that I previously designed for a Green Beret, Maj. Vin Zike.

And thus the Bulldog came to be ..... and then all the others.

Regards,

Al P.

What's wrong with the sheath? I have two Companions and love them both. I have one sheath rigged for IWB carry and It's very comfortable. The other I rigged with a homemade paracord shoulder harness.. also works great. I also mounted one of the sheaths under the dash in my vehicle for easy access in an emergency. I know they won't fall out .... they draw easily when I need them and they don't rattle around at all. My first Companion was the bead blasted version with the chisel edge. Just picked up my second in black with the double bevel grind... $19.99 on-line.
